Lovesick   חולת אהבה

פתחי לי אחותי רעיתי יונתי

פתחי  לי רעיתי ישראל תמתי

I was asleep, my heart was awake

When I heard a sound

I was asleep, my heart was awake

When I heard

A knock at my door, a knock at my door

The voice of my Lover saying

“Open to Me, My sister My dove

My precious darling

Open to Me, My sister My dove

My flawless darling

Open to Me, Israel, My precious darling one”

פתחי לי אחותי רעיתי יונתי

But I did not want Him to come in

My Lover tried to open my door

He reached out His hand to my door, to my heart

פתחי לי אחותי רעיתי יונתי

פתחי לי רעיתי ישראל

פתחי לי רעיתי יונתי תמתי

I arose, I opened the door

But He had turned and gone

My heart jumped, skipping a beat

But my Beloved was gone

בנות ירשלים

אם תמצאו את דודי

מה תגידו לו

שחולת אהבה אני

Daughters of Jerusalem

Help me find my Lover

And if you find my Lover

Tell Him I am lovesick

חולת אהבה אני

How long   עד מתי

How long, how long, how long?

Our days, our lives like morning dew

They quickly fade away

But in Your sight a thousand years

Is only as a day

We ask You for tikkun olam

Heaven kissing earth

When will our eyes be satisfied

To see Your glory here, to see Your glory here?

We wait, we wait, we wait

What will it take till You reveal

Yourself to Israel?

What can we say to move Your heart

To lift the veil?

For Zion’s sake we wait to see

Her great awakening

Take back Your wife, take off her chains

And be her King, and be her King

Peace on earth, shalom al Yisrael, life from the dead

How long O Lord, how long O Lord, how long?

הוא לא מאחר,הוא לא מאחר, כי הוא יבוא

ויום יבוא, שהוא לא יום ולא לילה

He will not delay, He will not delay, for He will come

The day will come, known to the Lord – it is not day or night

Peace on earth, shalom al Yisrael, life from the dead

How long O Lord, how long O Lord, how long

Come from the four winds   מארבע רוחות בואי

Come from the four winds, O breath

Breathe on these slain that they may live

Can these bones live? Lord, You know

In the valley of trouble is a door of hope

Wake up north wind

Come wind of the south

Breathe, breathe and we will live

מארבע רוחות בואי הרוח

ופחי בהרוגים האלה ויחיו

התחיינה העצמות האלה? אדוני אתה ידעת

עורי צפון, בואי תימן

רוחך תן באנו ונחייה

Wake up north wind

Come wind of the south

Spirit breathe and we will live

By Your Spirit we will live

Holy Holy Holy Lord

You raise the dead

You have said it, You’ll do it

And we will know that

You are the Lord

תבוא רוחך, נחיה לפניך

Desert storms   סופות המדבר

Not the time to remain silent

Not the time to fade away

So turn up the volume, Captain

Cuz it’s midnight at midday

There’s a riot in the streets

Politicians on every side

Rats are settin’ up a rat trap

There ain’t nowhere to hide

Troops are moving into position

And boots are definitely on the ground

There’s a Final Solution to Mid-East peace

They don’t want no Jews around

Well, the nations are united

They’re signin’ off on one accord

Don’t you know we’re on the eve of destruction

You could call it the Day of the Lord

Bullets whine through the desert

In Edom the war drum sounds

Ishmael and sons of Hagar

Desert storms are gatherin’ round

Tyre and Lebanon – they’re on the way

Palestinians fixing for a fight

Syria, Iraq and Jordan

Joinin’ in with all their might

Why the rage, why the vanity,

Kings and Queens and Presidents?

Take your shot at God Almighty

And drop your bombs on Jacob’s tents

Aim your weapon, take your stand

Gonna meet you down in the Promised Land

Lock n’ load, cannons roar

Meet you down on the killing floor

You can’t break the chains around you

You can’t throw away the holy yoke

You can hear the reverb of His laughter

But I think you didn’t get the joke

I have set My Son in Zion

And My Messiah rules the waves

The sun will never set on My empire

My people shall never be slaves

With a rod of burning iron

He will smash the rebel arm

So kiss the Son, lest He be angry

And you get sent to Parchman Farm

For here is wisdom, here is justice

All you judges of the earth

Stop your fighting ‘gainst My Kingdom

Y’ain’t never gonna win for what it’s worth

I will rule over you

With a mighty hand and a powerful arm

I will rule over you, I will be King over you

And bring you to My holy place

To My holy land, by My hand

And you will know I am He, I am the Lord

Good To Israel

Lord we bend our knees to You

We bow before Your throne

Lord we lift our eyes to You

We look to You alone

We humble ourselves beneath Your mighty hand

We cry to You, come and heal Your land

Come heal Your land

Raise up high a banner for all the world to see

Make these words our holy anthem,

“Surely God is good to Israel

Surely God is good to Israel

Surely You are good to Israel

Surely You are good to Israel

So good to Israel, You are good to Israel.”

Lord we long to see the day

When mourning will be done

Your glory in Jerusalem

The presence of Your Son

He is the great High Priest

Who sat down at Your right hand

His blood was shed to cleanse and heal Your land

To heal Your land

Raise up high a banner . . .

Remove The Veil

My sight is dim and my heart is dull

Find me Lord, lift the veil

Shine Your face on me

Remove the veil that my eyes may see

Remove the veil that hides You from me

Remove the veil that my eyes may see

Your beauty and Your glory, My Lord

Like a sheep I’ve gone astray

But the blood You shed, spotless Lamb

Makes a way beyond the veil

And calls me back to You

Remove the veil . . .

Thanks to all those who contributed to this project with intercession, finances, hospitality, filling in for us at home, friendship and encouragement. God knows your name and address!  Thanks to all the superb musicians who graced this project by their contributions. Special thanks to Avi Singolda, the intuitive poet with the golden guitar; Nimrod Elisar, drummer extrordinaire; Peter Wertheimer, a true Renaissance woodwind man; Kamal Zayid, for his thoughtful embroidery; Amir Shahs’har, a Persian shepherd with a heart like David; and Daniel Boskey, for giving us the privilege of playing with you on your first recording! Deep appreciation to Nati Patishi, who ate, breathed and slept this recording with us, weaving sensitivity and wisdom into the result.

Some of the unique instruments heard on this recording are: the ney, a Persian reed flute which rests on the upper teeth. Its sound most closely resembles a human voice. The qanun, originally an Egyptian trapezoidal zither or psaltery, consists of 75-81 strings in sets of three. The oud is an 8-stringed Arabic instrument and the father of both the lute and the guitar. The bouzouki is an 8-stringed Greek instrument with a long neck and a watermelon shaped body. The darbuka is an hourglass-shaped Middle Eastern hand drum. The daira (or da’irah or doyreh) is a Central Asian Bukharin frame drum; metal jinglets/rings are suspended on its internal frame. Copper plates are used for percussive effect in Yemenite Jewish music.

We dedicate this recording to Jacob’s children – that we may all enter into our amazing destiny. And to the body of Messiah – may God plant the seed of His burning heart for the Jewish people deep within your being!  This music was birthed in the Middle East, where spiritual roots go back to Eden, to Abraham, to David and to the Messiah. May you enjoy drinking water from ancient wells!

Where is Their God?

Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”

Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”

God, the nations have come into Your inheritance

They shed blood like water

The blood of Your servants

How long will Your jealousy burn like fire?

Pour out Your wrath on the nations who haven’t know You!

Rescue us, God, for the glory of Your Name

Atone our sins for Your name’s sake.

How long will You be angry with the prayer of Your people?

Stir up Your power and we will be saved!

Will Your covenant faithfulness be spoken about in the grave?

Will Your faithfulness be recounted in Abaddon?

Guardian of Israel hear our prayer!

Revive us, revive us and we will thank You!

Revive us, revive us and we will thank You!

We are Your people and the sheep of Your pasture.

Go towards us so as to save us.

Lord of armies, look upon us again,

Then forever, from generation to generation,

We will declare Your praise!

Forever, from generation to generation,

We will declare Your praise!

Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”

[/accordion-item] [accordion-item title=”Dead End”]

Dead End

To the right, to the left, forward and back,

We’re not able to move

The space is small and narrow.

The situation is getting worse

It’s reaching a crisis.

How can we take any more?

Father, how can we?

We can’t take any more, Father, we can’t.

(Our Father in Heaven, to where shall we turn?)

Chorus:

Because You are the One who brought us back.

You are the One who planted us in our land.

We have no way out; we have no answer.

We’re standing on a narrow bridge and there’s nowhere to turn.

Confused, desperate, all the solutions have run out.

We’re pointing an accusing and vengeful finger

At each other!

You are trapping us in Your mighty arms,

Shaking us to the foundations.

Only the skies are left to us.

Lift up our eyes unto You.

Chorus:

Because You are…

Our Father! Don’t shut the gates.

Open a window in heaven, rain down compassion.

Don’t shut the gates

Rain down Your mercies on us.

Don’t shut the gates.

Rain down Your compassions, rain down compassion.

Don’t shut the gates

Rain down Your mercies upon us.

Chorus:

Roll up the heavens and reveal Your face.

Reveal Yourself before us!

Roll up the heavens, reveal Your face.

For You are the Mighty God,

The Mighty God and mighty to save.

Restore Us

Lord, hear, Lord, forgive Lord, give ear

Do it and don’t delay

For Your sake Lord

For Your sake my God

Do it and don’t delay

Because Your name is declared

Over your city and over Your people.

For if You should make note of iniquities

Lord, who could stand?

But with You , with You is Forgiveness

That You may be feared, Lord.

You’ve chosen us,

You’ve desired us,

You’ve set us apart from among all peoples,

You’ve loved, us You have given an inheritance

To be Your people and a light to the nations.

Ours is the status of sons, ours is the glory

The Temple service and the promises

To us was the giving of the Torah

Ours are the Patriarchs, ours are the covenants

Ours is the Messiah, Son of David.

But we have betrayed You, we have abandoned You.

As sheep without a shepherd, we wander astray

Blind, failing, stumbling,

And now Lord, You are our Father,

Will You remember our iniquities forever?

Heal us, save us

Then we will be healed and we will be saved.

Heal us, save us, restore us Lord

Restore us, restore us Lord

Restore us, heal us, restore us Lord.

For if You should make note of iniquities

Lord, who could stand?

But with You , with You is Forgiveness

That You may be feared, Lord.

Seeds of hope in a people which has been desolated.

Go forth and call out Your first fruits

In every heart which ripe and hungry.

The fields of Your people are full

Lord, the standing grain is ripe.

Lord, the standing grain is ripe.

Let us again be as dreamers

When You cause the remnant of Zion to return to You.

Grant flash floods in the Negev

In great joy save Your people.

In great joy save Your people.

Gather up the sheaves of true prepared hearts

Into sheaves of Your mercy and compassion

Good to Israel

We bend the knee before You and bow down

We lift our eyes up to You alone and plead for mercy.

And all the nations will see

Make of us a holy anthem

Surely Adonai is good to Israel.

Surely Adonai is good to Israel

You Adonai are good to Israel

You Adonai are good to Israel,

So good to Israel .

You are good to Israel.

We long for the day when You will wipe away the tears of the people.

Remove from our hearts every other god.

Give us a new heart.

Remove from our hearts every other god.

Give us a new heart.

Guard us, guard our souls, Lord, from all evil.

Guard our souls, guard our lives, Lord, from all evil.

Rescue us from the hand of the enemy

And lift Your people up.

Rescue us from the hand of the enemy

And lift Your people up.

Lord, reveal to us the glory of Your face.

Show Your face, Lord, to Your people.

Reveal to us the beauty of Your Servant

And then we will know Him

Reveal to us the beauty of Your Servant

And then we will know Him

Heal us, Lord, heal Your people.

Heal us, Lord in the greatness of Your love.

Anoint us with Your anointing oil and we will be pure.

Anoint us with Your anointing oil and we will be pure.

Lord, love us, love Your people

Lord, love us as a groom loves his bride.

Wrap us in garments of salvation,

In pure raiment for Your sake.

In pure raiment for Your sake.

Save us, heal us in Your love

Your love, Your love, Lord.

N’MITN VEG (In the middle of the road)

This anonymous Ukrainian Jewish song was published in Saint Petersburg, Russia in 1901 by Shaul Moiseevitch Rosenberg (Еврейскія народныя пѣсни въ Россіи; ייִדישע פֿאָלקסלידער אין רוסלאַנד). The words express a deep longing to return to the Land of Israel, where all wrongs will be righted. The instrumentation reflects traditional acoustic klezmer music of the early 1800’s.

In the middle of the road stands a tree – it stands bent over

A Jew travels toward the Land of Israel with weeping eyes.

God, God, O great God! Too long have we suffered Exile!

When we travel back to the Land of Israel, it’ll be the end of our problems!

God, God, O great God! We will be presenters of righteous offerings (see Malachi 3:3)

When we travel back to the Land of Israel, it’ll be a great joy!

In the middle of the road stands a tree – roses are growing upon her.

A Jew travels toward the Land of Israel with ripped up pants.

God, God, O great God! You are a beloved Father!

When we travel back to the Land of Israel, then we will patch them all up!

God, God, O great God! It’s time to pray the Mincheh (afternoon prayers)

When we travel back to the Land of Israel, it’ll be joy and rejoicing!

BEI DI TEICHN (Beside the Babylonian Rivers)

The words are based on Psalm 137:1-4. The original tune was published in Oxford, England on July 1, 1786 by Philip Hayes (composer, organist, singer and conductor). The Jewish man who penned the psalm was struggling to make sense of YHVH’s hand of judgment on His chosen people – the Exile to Babylon circa 587 B.C. That event kicked off the Scattering (Diaspora) of Israel and catalyzed the onset of the prophet Daniel’s Times of the Gentiles – Gentile dominion over the Jewish people. Biblical dreams of a Return to Zion would accompany our nation over the next 2,500 years.

Beside the Babylonian rivers we sat ourselves down, weeping, mourning for you.

We recall our memories of Zion. Our angry captors, our enemies and torturers request that we sing songs, wordless melodies, a Yiddish song – but how can we sing a holy melody on foreign and unclean soil? (see Amos 7:17; Hosea 9:3)

Restore Us

Lord, hear, Lord, forgive Lord, give ear

Do it and don’t delay

For Your sake Lord

For Your sake my God

Do it and don’t delay

Because Your name is declared

Over your city and over Your people.

For if You should make note of iniquities

Lord, who could stand?

But with You , with You is Forgiveness

That You may be feared, Lord.

You’ve chosen us,

You’ve desired us,

You’ve set us apart from among all peoples,

You’ve loved, us You have given an inheritance

To be Your people and a light to the nations.

Ours is the status of sons, ours is the glory

The Temple service and the promises

To us was the giving of the Torah

Ours are the Patriarchs, ours are the covenants

Ours is the Messiah, Son of David.

But we have betrayed You, we have abandoned You.

As sheep without a shepherd, we wander astray

Blind, failing, stumbling,

And now Lord, You are our Father,

Will You remember our iniquities forever?

Heal us, save us

Then we will be healed and we will be saved.

Heal us, save us, restore us Lord

Restore us, restore us Lord

Restore us, heal us, restore us Lord.

For if You should make note of iniquities

Lord, who could stand?

But with You , with You is Forgiveness

That You may be feared, Lord.

Lord of the Harvest

Lord, Lord of Adonai, Lord of the harvest

Lord, incline Your ear

Incline your ear, Adonai.

For the fields of Your people are full

And the standing grain is ripe

The fields of Your people are full

And the standing grain is ripe, is ripe.

The fields of Your people are full

Lord, the standing grain is ripe.

Lord, the standing grain is ripe.

Incline Your ear.

With the tears of Your blood You have sown

Seeds of hope in a people which has been desolated.

Go forth and call out Your first fruits

In every heart which ripe and hungry.

The fields of Your people are full

Lord, the standing grain is ripe.

Lord, the standing grain is ripe.

Let us again be as dreamers

When You cause the remnant of Zion to return to You.

Grant flash floods in the Negev

In great joy save Your people.

In great joy save Your people.

Gather up the sheaves of true prepared hearts

Into sheaves of Your mercy and compassion

Grant flash floods in the Negev

In great joy save Your people.

In great joy save Your people.

The fields of Your people are full

Good to Israel

We bend the knee before You and bow down

We lift our eyes up to You alone and plead for mercy.

Under Your hand we humble ourselves

Hear our voice.

Heal Your land, heal it.

Raise up high a banner and flag

And all the nations will see

Make of us a holy anthem

Surely Adonai is good to Israel.

Surely Adonai is good to Israel

You Adonai are good to Israel

You Adonai are good to Israel,

So good to Israel .

You are good to Israel.

We long for the day when You will wipe away the tears of the people.

The Lamb high and lifted up.

King

Am zu yatzarti li, yisapru tehilati

I created Israel for Myself, My fame to tell

Israel, you will be a people who glorify Me

A light for all the world to see

And a people who glorify Me

I’m the Living God and I’m speaking to you

I will rule over you

With a mighty hand and a powerful arm

I will rule over you, I will be King over you

I will judge you face to face

And bring you to My holy place

To My holy land, by My hand

And you will know I am He, I am the Lord

You will know I am the Lord

All your sin I will forgive

In My new covenant you will live

Your great and small, one and all

Will know I am He, I am the Lord

You will know I am the Lord

I’m the Living God and I’m speaking to you . . .

Good To Israel

Lord we bend our knees to You

We bow before Your throne

Lord we lift our eyes to You

We look to You alone

We humble ourselves beneath Your mighty hand

We cry to You, come and heal Your land

Come heal Your land

Raise up high a banner for all the world to see

Make these words our holy anthem,

“Surely God is good to Israel

Surely God is good to Israel

Surely You are good to Israel

Surely You are good to Israel

So good to Israel, You are good to Israel.”

Lord we long to see the day

When mourning will be done

Your glory in Jerusalem

The presence of Your Son

He is the great High Priest

Who sat down at Your right hand

His blood was shed to cleanse and heal Your land

To heal Your land

Raise up high a banner . . .

Deep in my heart, Lord, there’s a holy stirring

Yearning to be one with You

Clothed with Your Spirit, blazing with Your fire

Clinging only to You

Seal Your holy love upon my temple

Pour Your name like perfume on my soul

Take my hand and lead me to Your chambers

I’ll hold You and I will not let You go

Remove The Veil

My sight is dim and my heart is dull

My mind is darkened by iniquity

I lost the way and I cannot see

Find me Lord, lift the veil

Shine Your face on me

Remove the veil that my eyes may see

Remove the veil that hides You from me

Remove the veil that my eyes may see

Your beauty and Your glory, My Lord

Like a sheep I’ve gone astray

I’ve turned from You to my own way

But the blood You shed, spotless Lamb

Makes a way beyond the veil

And calls me back to You

Remove the veil . . .

Save Your People

Save Your people, save Your people

O Lord, from their sin

And take from us every other god

Deliver us from the hands of our enemies

O Lord, lift us up

Show Your people, show Your people

O Lord, show Your face

Reveal to us the beauty of Your servant

O Lord, make Him known

Heal Your people, heal Your people

O Lord, with Your love

Pour on us the oil of Your anointing

O Lord, make us whole

Love Your people, love Your people

O Lord, as a bride

Cover us with pure white garments

O Lord, for Yourself
