05. MY LOVER'S VOICE

Between June 1949 and September 1950, the God of Jacob reached out His hand to bring back His scattered people from Yemen (the Land also known as Hadhramaut/Sheba/Aden). Over 49,000 Jews from Yemen, Aden, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti and Eritrea climbed into airplanes which made over 380 flights from Aden to Israel. These Jewish people saw their airlift as a fulfilment of Isaiah’s prophecy to restore His exiled people to their Promised Land on eagles’ wings (Isaiah 40:31; 11:10- 16). Yemenite Jewish folk music often refers to the Song of Songs as an allegory of God’s love for His ancient people. This song, based on an ancient Yemenite melody, is also sung today in Russian by Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union.
