06. EL BOROT HAMAYIM (To the waters of the well)

The longing of the Jewish people, scattered among the nations, for the soil, fruit and waters of their homeland has been an intense desire, reflected in poetry and song. Jeremiah expressed God’s heart well, “I remember regarding the devotion of your youth, your love when you were a bride, your following after Me in the wilderness, through a land not sown” (Jeremiah 2:2). Israel’s poet laureate Naomi Shemer captured this passion in her classic ‘To the waters of the well – El borot hamayim.’
