You must not forget!

[And Moses said]: “Remember what Amalek did to you on the way when you came out of Egypt, how he confronted you on the way and attacked among you all the stragglers at your rear when you were tired and weary; and he did not fear God. So it shall come about, when YHVH your God has given you rest from all your surrounding enemies in the land which YHVH your God is giving you as an inheritance to possess, that you shall wipe out the mention of the name Amalek from under heaven; you must not forget” (Deuteronomy 25:17-19)

YHVH, the Commander of the armies of Israel (see 1 Samuel 17:25,46), gave military orders to the Jewish people and even placed them in the Bible for good measure: do not forget the genocidal deeds of your enemies, and (as King David instructed Solomon) do not let their grey-haired heads go down to She’ol in peace (1 Kings 2:5-9)!

Does ‘Death to America!’ mean ‘Not our war!’?

We live in different times: forgetfulness and woke pacifism have become de rigeur for many nations, and it has become commonplace and politically correct to tolerate and empower one’s mortal foes. In light of fast-paced developments in the Middle East, it would be helpful to remember and not forget what damage the Islamic Republic of Iran, its Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (known in Farsi/Persian as Pasdaran) and its terrorist proxies (which include Lebanese Hezbollah, Gazan Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Iraqi Kata’eb Hezbollah, Yemenite Houthi ansar allah forces, etc.) have done specifically to American armed forces and diplomats for over 46 years, since 1979. Those ostrich-like politicians and commentators who chant ‘Not our flag, not our war!’ seem to have forgotten how many Americans have been murdered by Iran and its proxies over the years, and how – as far as Iran is concerned – this is very much America’s war.

The Sarkha (الصرخة, Arabic for ‘the scream’) is the banner-slogan of one of those proxies, the Yemenite Shi’ite Houthis, and it reads ‘allah is greater! Death to America! Death to Israel! Curses be upon the Jews! Victory to Islam!’ The phrase ‘Death to America!’ was originally popularized by Ayatollah Khomeini in early 1979 (‘Marg bar Âmrikâ’, in Farsi [Persian]) and was used by Pasdaran demonstrators in front of the US Embassy in Tehran, including on November 9, 1979 – the day the Embassy was violently occupied and the 444-day hostage crisis began. This chant is commonplace in government-sponsored demonstrations and in the Iranian Parliament. Less than one year ago, Iran’s new President Masoud Pezeshkian was sworn in at Iran’s Parliament (the Majles) on July 30, 2024, to the chants ‘Death to America! Death to Israel!’

“Forever war” – at least since 1979

Some talking heads who are content for Iran to continue its development of nuclear weapons have been warning that any US involvement in eradicating the Ayatollah’s nuclear weapons program would lead to ‘a forever war.’ In response, US Senator Tom Cotton (chairman of both the Senate Republican Conference and the Senate Intelligence Committee) recently tweeted “The forever war is the war that Iran has waged against the United States, Israel, and the civilized world since 1979.” The following is a non-comprehensive list of hostile Iranian-guided acts against American troops and diplomats since 1979:

1979 - 52 American diplomats were captured during a violent assault on the US Embassy in Tehran and were held hostage for 444 days

1983 - On April 18 63 people were killed in the Iran/IRGC-directed bombing of the US Embassy in Beirut. Of these, 17 were American. Eight of these were CIA, including the CIA’s top Middle East analyst and Near East director, Robert Ames, Station Chief Kenneth Haas, James Lewis and most of the CIA’s Beirut staff. Over 120 were wounded.

1983 - On October 23, 1983 a suicide truck-bomber (trained by Iran/IRGC) detonated 12,000 pounds (5,400 kg) of TNT at the barracks for the 1st Battalion 8th Marines (Battalion Landing Team – BLT 1/8) of the 2nd Marine Division, killing 220 marines, 18 sailors and three soldiers. This was the deadliest single-day death toll for the United States Marine Corps since the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. Another 128 Americans were wounded in the blast. Thirteen later died of their injuries, and they are counted among the number who died.

1984 - On September 20, 1984 the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, with support and direction from Iran and the IRGC, carried out a suicide car bombing using 3,000 pounds (1360 kg) of explosives, targeting the US Embassy annex in East Beirut. A total of 23 people were killed, including two Americans and 1 attacker.

On September 13, 2023, Sayyed Issa Tabatabai, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s representative in Lebanon, was interviewed by Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA). In that interview, Tabatabai said “From the Imam [Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini], I received approval for the struggle against Israel and even the fatwa [ordering us] to carry out martyrdom operations [ishtihad in the original], and he confirmed this three times. I quickly went to Lebanon and provided what was needed in order to [carry out] martyrdom operations in the place where the Americans and Israelis were” – referring to the three terrorist bombings in 1983 and 1984.

1996 - On June 25, a truck bomb was detonated next to the Khobar Towers, part of an eight-story structure housing members of the United States Air Force’s 4404th Wing (Provisional) and close to King Abdulaziz Air Base. A total of 19 American airmen were killed, and 498 of other nationalities were wounded. Approximately 5,000 pounds (2,300 kg) of plastic explosives, detonated in a shaped charge, with the force of at least 20,000 pounds (9,100 kg) of TNT, according to a later assessment of the Defense Special Weapons Agency. The blast was felt 20 miles (32 km) away in the Persian Gulf state of Bahrain.

US official statements confirmed that an Iranian-connected group ‘Hezbollah Al-Hejaz’ was responsible for the attack. On 22 December 2006, high court judge Royce C. Lamberth ruled that Iran and Hezbollah were directly and personally responsible for the attack, stating that the leading experts on Hezbollah presented overwhelming evidence of the group’s involvement and that six captured Hezbollah agents detailed the role of Iranian intelligence and military officials in providing money, explosives, arms and weapons, plans, and maps

A now-declassified secret cable (stored in the National Security Archives) was sent in 1999 by POTUS Bill Clinton to then-Iranian President Mohammed Khatami:

Message to President Khatami from President Clinton: The United Sates Government has received credible evidence that members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), along with members of Lebanese and Saudi Hizballah, were directly involved in the planning and execution of the terrorist bombing in Saudi Arabia of the Khobar Towers military residential complex on June 25, 1996. Nineteen American citizens were killed. The United States views this in the gravest terms.”

The credible evidence was based on extensive interviews with some half a dozen Saudi suspects, who told investigators they were provided with passports by the Iranian embassy in Syria, that an Iranian general was their handler for the attack, and that they were trained by the IRGC. This information was later suppressed by POTUS Clinton’s National Security Advisor Sandy Berger, based on State Department political considerations. Then-FBI Director Louis Freeh briefed a reporter that the Clinton administration kept his investigators from gaining full cooperation in the Khobar probe in hopes that looking the other way would create a better relationship with Iran.

2000 On October 12 an al-Qa’eda terror suicide squad sailed a small boat near the USS Cole, a guided-missile destroyer berthed for a fuel stop in the Yemeni port of Aden. Seventeen sailors were killed, 39 were injured, and the ship was significantly damaged, with a 40 foot (12 m) diameter hole on its port side. A US Federal District Court found Iran complicit through its training of Al-Qaeda, and ordered Iran to pay two sums – $254 million in 1996, and a further $879.1 million in 2020 – for involvement in planning and training the bombing of the USS Cole. On July 29, 2024 Mona Gunn v. Islamic Republic of Iran Order granted judgment against Iran awarded $1.956 billion to the plaintiffs in the USS Cole attack.

According to a Pentagon report provided to the US State Department, Iran is responsible for the deaths of more than 600 U.S. service members in Iraq from 2003 until 2011. “During Operation Iraqi Freedom, DoD assessed that at least 603 U.S. personnel deaths in Iraq were the result of Iran-backed militants,” Pentagon spokesman Navy Cmdr. Sean Robertson told Task & Purpose. Based on declassified U.S. military reports, this means that Iran is responsible for 17 percent of all U.S. troops killed between 2003 and 2011.

According to the Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs article ‘Killing Americans and their Allies: Iran’s Continuing War against the United States and the West’:

“Iran’s support for Iraqi insurgents led to the deaths of an estimated 1,100 U.S. soldiers as well as other Coalition troops in Iraq, including British forces. Former U.S. ambassador to Iraq from 2010-2012, James Jeffery, said: ‘Up to a quarter of the American casualties and some of the more horrific incidents in which Americans were kidnapped…can be traced without doubt to these Iranian groups’”

“Iran paid Taliban fighters $1,000 for each U.S. soldier they killed in Afghanistan. The Sunday Times reported that a Taliban operative received $18,000 from an Iranian firm in Kabul as reward for an attack in 2010 that killed several Afghan government troops and destroyed an American armored vehicle”

“Iranian President Rouhani’s so-called ‘moderation’ was displayed when he appointed Brig.-Gen. Hossein Dehghan to be Iranian Minister of Defense. Dehghan played a key role in the October 1983 suicide bomb attacks in Beirut in which 241 U.S. Marines and 58 French paratroopers were killed.

2024 On January 28, an Iranian-backed jihadi group, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, Tower 22, a U.S. military outpost in Rukban, northeast Jordan, with an attack drone. Three US soldiers were killed and 47 injured.

Between October 2023 and August 2024, Iranian-backed Islamic Resistance in Iraq militias launched 180 attacks against U.S. forces in Syria, Iraq and Jordan.

On November 8, 2024, the US Justice Department announced charges in an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate former president Donald Trump and a prominent dissident Iranian-American journalist. The foiled plot was directed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to avenge the death of its general Qassem Soleimani, killed in a 2020 US strike ordered by then-president Trump. “The charges announced today expose Iran’s continued brazen attempts to target US citizens, including President-elect Donald Trump, other government leaders and dissidents who criticize the regime in Tehran,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said.

By the way, Iran also attacked Israel

This newsletter has focused on the war that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been waging for 46 years against the USA. It would be fair to mention that the IRGC and the Ayatollahs have also focused on warring against Israel, based on their jihadi Islamist beliefs (see ‘The Iranian Leadership’s Continuing Declarations of Intent to Destroy Israel’). Iran and the IRGC have engaged worldwide in many attacks on the state of Israel and on Jewish people. Here is a very truncated list of some attacks:

1982 On November 11 a Peugeot 504 car packed with explosives struck the seven-story Israeli military HQ in Tyre, Lebanon. The building was leveled, and 75 Israeli soldiers, border policemen, and Shin Bet agents were killed. Between 14–27 Lebanese and Palestinian prisoners held by Israel were also killed. The injured included 27 Israelis and 28 Arabs. Iran/IRGC oversaw Hezbollah’s training and supplies. IDF Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Abulafia noted in July 2024: “We know that the director of the attack was supported by Iran… there was also some partial involvement by Imad Mughniyeh, one of the founders of Hezbollah . . . We can say responsibly that the attack was directed by Iran.”

1983 On November 4 Iran/IRGC oversaw bombing of the IDF HQ in Tyre, Lebanon. A suicide bomber drove a pickup truck filled with half a ton of explosives into a Shin Bet building at the IDF base, killing 28 Israelis and 32 Lebanese prisoners, and wounded about 40 others. The attack was carried out by the Shi’ite Lebanese jihadi organization Hezbollah, trained and guided by Iran.

1992 On March 17 a suicide bomber drove a pickup loaded with explosives into the front of the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina.. The embassy, a Catholic church, and a nearby school building were destroyed. The blast killed 29 (including 4 Israelis and many Argentinian Jews) and wounded 242. Messages intercepted by the American National Security Agency revealed Iranian knowledge of the impending attack, as well as the complicity of Hezbollah operative Imad Mughniyah. In April 2024, Argentina’s second highest court ruled that the Iranian government was responsible for the bombing. The ruling also characterized Iran as a terrorist state

1994 On July 18 a suicide bomber drove a Renault Trafic van bomb loaded with about 600 pounds (275 kg) of ammonium nitrate fertilizer and fuel oil explosive mixture, into the Jewish community center building, killing 85 people and injuring over 300. In 2024, an Argentine court ruled that Iran directed the attack, and that it was carried by the proxy Hezbollah.

Time and space do not permit us to detail the Iran-financed and Iran-triggered wars using Hamas and Hezbollah, where rockets and terror pogroms were directed against Israeli civilians. These occurred in 2006, 2008-9, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025.

Time to wake up

For the past half century, Iran and its proxies have caused more American military deaths and injuries than any other organization. Iran and its Pasdaran/IRGF have also established a Shi’ite ring of fire/Shi’ite crescent around Israel, aimed at obliterating the Jewish state and the Jewish people. For those who love Zion and the Jewish people, it is time to intercede:

“For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep quiet – until her righteousness goes forth like brightness, and her salvation like a torch that is burning . . . On your walls, Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen! All day and all night they will never keep silent! You who profess YHVH, take no rest for yourselves and give Him no rest until He establishes and makes Jerusalem an object of praise on the earth” (Isaiah 62:1-7)

And it is time to intercede for America as well, that her leaders will be given discernment, courage and military strategies for the challenges that lie immediately ahead.

Arise, God, and plead Your own cause! Remember how the foolish person taunts You all day long. Do not forget the voice of Your adversaries, the uproar of those who rise against You, which ascends continually (Psalm 74:22-23)

How shall we then pray?

Pray that Iranian jihadi plans to destroy Israel and to cause great casualties will be nullified

Pray that divine wisdom, strategies and discernment be given to the leaders of Israel and the USA

Pray for the raising up of Ezekiel’s prophetic Jewish army throughout the earth

The God of Moses on the battlefield

The body of Messiah is going through a paradigm shift – a new Reformation – regarding a proper understanding of the Bible. The Jewish book called the Bible (95% written by Jews, 95% about the Jews – both the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Covenant) is not simply a book of devotional teaching for personal encouragement. It is chock full of life-saving information about who is the God of Israel; what He is doing through the restoration of Israel; and how He is sifting and judging the nations based on their heart attitude and response to the Jewish people.

Mocking Moses

But many people still don’t get it. They see the Bible as Sunday School fairytales, and they mock God’s gifts to Israel (including their homeland) and God’s calling on Israel (as a chosen and priority nation) as fables and superstitions which superpowers should definitely ignore. As the Book of Jude warns us, “In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts. These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit” (Jude 17-19).

In Nehemiah’s day, talking heads like Sanballat the Samaritan and Tobiah from Ammon, mocked the ongoing Jewish restoration to their Promised Land and capital city. Those talking heads urged ancient Persia (modern Iran) to cut off any connection with the work of Jewish restoration. His exact words are given:

And he spoke in the presence of his brothers and the wealthy people of Samaria and said, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Are they going to restore the Temple for themselves? . . . Can they finish it in a day? Can they revive the stones from the heaps of rubble, even the burned ones?” Now Tobiah said, “Even what they are building – if a fox were to jump on it, it would break their stone wall down!” [Nehemiah responds to YHVH:] “Hear, O our God, how we are an object of contempt! Return their taunting on their own heads!” (Nehemiah 4:1-4)

As Ishmael and Hagar mocked Isaac the son of promise in Genesis 21:8-10, so some ‘woke’ conservative political commentators mock the word of God and scorn God’s chosen Jewish people, pressuring POTUS Trump to abandon Israel.

Jeremiah talked about a similar dynamic in his day, where people “no longer remember the pronouncement of YHVH, because every person’s own word will become the pronouncement, and [they] have perverted the words of the living God, YHVH of armies, our God” (Jeremiah 23:35-36).

The scriptural principle here is laid out in Exodus 14:31, in the Second Book of Moses: “When Israel saw the great power which the Lord had used against the Egyptians, the people feared YHVH, and they believed in YHVH and in His servant Moses.” When the entire Jewish people saw how YHVH fought for them and destroyed the cream of Egypt’s special forces chariots in Exodus 14:13-14, they believed God, God’s word and God’s messenger. That is the context which Messiah Yeshua referred to in John 5:46 when He declared: “For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me.” Those internet pundits who mock Israel’s calling while advocating for jihadi supporters and states are mocking the God of Israel as well. The phrase “Christ is king” when used by these people – who deny Christ’s choosing of the Jewish people and His love gift to Jacob of the Promised Land – they are twisting the word of God and using it like some anti-Semitic silver cross amulet to ‘chase away vampires’ – God’s chosen people, the sons and daughters of Jacob.

As our dear friend Ricky Skaggs often says, you can’t shake Jesus! And it is Jesus (or Yeshua, as His mother called Him) who speaks to us across the length and breadth of Scripture about His love, His calling and His protection over Israel.

As Jeremiah prophesies regarding a similar context:

Therefore all who devour you [O Israel] will be devoured, and all your adversaries, every one of them, will go into captivity. And those who plunder you will become plunder, and all who plunder you I will turn into plunder. For I will restore you to health and I will heal you of your wounds, declares YHVH, because they have called you an outcast, saying: “It is Zion; no one cares for her” (Jeremiah 30:16-17).

The Amalek principle

The battles of Joshua are not simply nice children’s stories for Sunday School. They are real events. They reveal to us how YHVH (who is called ‘the Commander of the armies of Israel’; see 1 Samuel 17:25,46) ordered the people of Jacob to conquer and occupy the Land He promised to Abraham. Jacob was no stranger to such military matters:

Then Israel said to Joseph, “Behold, I am about to die, but God will be with you, and bring you back to the land of your fathers. And I give you one portion more than your brothers, which I took from the hand of the Amorite with my sword and my bow” (Genesis 48:21-22)

When YHVH revealed to Ezekiel that the entire Jewish nation will be His Last Days mighty army (see Ezekiel 37:9-10), He was not speaking of something hitherto unknown. The God of Jacob had spoken to Moses years before, instructing him to conquer the land between the Sea beside Gaza up to the Syrian Euphrates River:

“YHVH our God spoke to us at Horeb, saying, ‘You have stayed long enough at this mountain. Turn and set out on your journey, and go to the hill country of the Amorites, and to all their neighbors in the Arabah, in the hill country, in the lowland, in the Negev, by the seacoast, the land of the Canaanites, and Lebanon, as far as the great River, the river Euphrates. See, I have placed the land before you; go in and take possession of the land which YHVH swore to give to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, and their descendants after them’” (Deuteronomy 1:6-8)

Edom (also known as Esau) had descendants living in what is modern-day Jordan. One of his grandsons was a tribal chieftain named Amalek, who tried to block Moses and Joshua from entering the Promised Land:

“These are the chiefs of the sons of Esau. The sons of Eliphaz (the firstborn of Esau) are chief Teman, chief Omar, chief Zepho, chief Kenaz, chief Korah, chief Gatam, and chief Amalek. These are the chiefs descended from Eliphaz in the land of Edom” (Genesis 36:15-16)

Then Amalek came and fought against Israel at Rephidim. So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose men for us and go out, fight against Amalek. Tomorrow I will station myself on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.” Joshua did just as Moses told him, and fought against Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. So it came about, when Moses held his hand up, that Israel prevailed; but when he let his hand down, Amalek prevailed. And Moses’ hands were heavy. So they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it; and Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other. So his hands were steady until the sun set. And Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword (Exodus 17:8-13)

The God of Jacob commanded Moses to write out a special scroll as a memorial to remember that YHVH has unfinished business – war – with Amalek:

Then YHVH said to Moses, “Write this in a book as a memorial and recite it to Joshua, that I will utterly wipe out the memory of Amalek from under heaven” (Exodus 17:14)

One of the last orders that YHVH gave to Moses before his passing, was to charge the Jewish people with finishing off this specific tribe of Edomites once and for all:

“Remember what Amalek did to you on the way when you came out of Egypt, how he confronted you on the way and attacked among you all the stragglers at your rear when you were tired and weary; and he did not fear God. So it shall come about, when YHVH your God has given you rest from all your surrounding enemies in the land which YHVH your God is giving you as an inheritance to possess, that you shall wipe out the mention of the name Amalek from under heaven; you must not forget” (Deuteronomy 25:17-19)

The prophetic perspectives of Moses and David

The God of Jacob, the Commander of the armies of Israel past, present and future, lays out this prophetic principle in Moses’ last prophetic Song:

“I will make My arrows drunk with blood, and My sword will devour flesh, with the blood of the slain and the captives, from the long-haired leaders of the enemy. Rejoice, you nations, with His people! For He will avenge the blood of His servants, and will return vengeance on His adversaries, and will atone for His land and His people.” Then Moses came and spoke all the words of this song in the hearing of the people, he, with Joshua the son of Nun (Deuteronomy 32:42-44)

The gifts and calling of YHVH on the nation of Israel are irrevocable and without repentance (see Romans 11:29). This is our God, and this is how He relates to nations who raise weapons against the people of Jacob. David son of Jesse sums up the spiritual principle which was true in the Valley of Elah when he faced Goliath, and it is true for David’s people as we face enemies who still occupy Persia/Iran and are energized by the Prince of Persia (see Daniel 10:13-20):

But David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a saber, but I come to you in the name of YHVH of armies, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day YHVH will hand you over to me, and I will strike you and remove your head from you. Then I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky and the wild animals of the earth, so that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that this entire assembly may know that YHVH does not save by sword or by spear; for the battle is YHVH’s, and He will hand you over to us!” (1 Samuel 17:45-47)

Believing and praying!

The biblical principles that YHVH lays out in Scripture are not just for Moses and David’s time. They are for the whole people of Israel today. And all who believe in Yeshua (and who also believe in Moses’ words) can take these promises and apply them in intercessory prayer – for Zion’s sake.

“They make shrewd plans against Your people, and conspire together against Your treasured ones. They have said, ‘Come, and let’s wipe them out as a nation, so that the name of Israel will no longer be remembered.’ For they have conspired together with one mind; they make a covenant against You” (Psalm 83:3-5)

“The high praises of God shall be in [the Jewish warriors’] mouths, and a two-edged sword in their hands – to execute vengeance on the nations, and punishment on the peoples; to bind their kings with chains, and their dignitaries with shackles of iron” (Psalm 149:6-8)

“For YHVH has a day of vengeance, a year of retribution for the cause of Zion” (Isaiah 34:8)

“There is a sound of fugitives and refugees from the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of YHVH our God” (Jeremiah 50:28)

“The Spirit of ADONAI YHVH is upon me, because YHVH anointed me to bring good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim release to captives and freedom to prisoners; to proclaim the favorable year of YHVH and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn in Zion” (Isaiah 61:1-2)

How shall we then pray?

Pray that Iranian jihadi plans to destroy Israel and to cause great casualties will be nullified

Pray that divine wisdom, strategies and discernment be given to the leaders of Israel and the USA

Pray for the raising up of Ezekiel’s prophetic Jewish army throughout the earth

YHVH the Warrior – alive and well

Who has ascended into heaven and descended?
Who has gathered the wind in His fists?
Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth?
What is His name or His Son’s name? Surely you know! (Proverbs 30:4)

“YHVH is a warrior; YHVH is His name!” (Exodus 15:3)

Post-WWII. Post-Vietnam. Post-Desert Storms. Post-Operation Enduring Freedom. Today many in the West are cynical about supporting any war. Rioting demonstrators in Europe and in woke North America are willing to attack police and National Guard in the name of championing anti-war causes. The recent Israeli interdiction of Shi’ite Iranian nuclear weapons and ballistic missile arsenals have torn away the sheets covering American defenders of jihad and attackers of Israel. Some of these cloak their nefarious strategies in pseudo-Christian language; others masquerade as super-patriots. But their common goal is laid out in Psalm 83:

“For behold, Your enemies make an uproar,
and those who hate You have exalted themselves.
They make shrewd plans against Your people,
and conspire together against Your treasured ones.
They have said, ‘Come, and let’s wipe them out as a nation,
so that the name of Israel will no longer be remembered.’
For they have conspired together with one mind; They make a covenant against You!” (Psalm 83:2-5)

These enemies of the Jewish people and the Jewish state are on public display for all who are watching. Behind the ‘nationalistic’ veneer of some anti-Semitic media personalities and politicians lies a staggering ignorance of the Bible – of God’s covenant-heart and love for Israel, and of the God of Jacob’s Last Days strategies for sifting and crushing the nations, based on their attitudes and actions toward the state of Israel and Israel’s seed.

There is a pressing need at this time to remember who is YHVH our God, the Lord of armies. What is His perspective regarding war and how He responds to those who attempt to annihilate the sons and daughters of Jacob? And how is this related to the ‘mighty army much much’ of Ezekiel 37:8-10? Here are some highly pertinent biblical guidelines and principles for consideration.

The God of Jacob actually sometimes makes war

“YHVH your God is in your midst, a victorious warrior” (Zephaniah 3:17)

“YHVH will go out like a warrior! He will stir His zeal like a man of war. He will shout, indeed, He will raise a war cry. He will prevail against His enemies” (Isaiah 42:13)

Who is this Who comes from Edom, with garments of glowing colors from Bozrah – this One who is majestic in His apparel, marching in the greatness of His strength? “It is I, the One who speaks in righteousness, mighty to save.” Why is Your apparel red, and Your garments like one who treads in the wine press? “I have trodden the wine trough alone, and from the peoples there was no one with Me. I also trod them in My anger and trampled them in My wrath. And their lifeblood is sprinkled on My garments, and I stained all My clothes. For the day of vengeance was in My heart, and My year of redemption has come. I looked, but there was no one to help, and I was astonished and there was no one to uphold! So My own arm brought salvation to Me, and My wrath upheld Me. I trampled down the peoples in My anger and made them drunk with My wrath, and I poured out their lifeblood on the earth” (Isaiah 63:1-6)

“It is said in the Book of the Wars of YHVH” (Numbers 21:14)

“Now it came about when Joshua was by Jericho, he raised his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man was standing opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand, and . . . He said, . . . ‘I am Captain of the Army of YHVH’” (Joshua 5:13-14)

All this should not surprise us, for Solomon lets us in on a divine secret:

“There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every matter under heaven . . . A time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, 8)

The God of Jacob has an arsenal of war machines

According to the Holy Scriptures, YHVH the Warrior uses natural disasters as weapons of war – in the past against the Egyptians (Exodus 9:18), the Canaanites (Joshua 10:11), the Assyrians (Isaiah 30:30), and the false prophets of Israel (Ezekiel 13:11-13); and in the future against all mankind at the time of the seventh angelic bowl judgment (Revelation 16:21).

YHVH Himself explains this war strategy to Job when He cross-examines him: “Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, and have you seen the storehouses of the hail, which I have reserved for a time of distress, for a day of war and battle?” (Job 38:22-23)

The God of Jacob has chosen Israel to be His special war machine

“The portion of Jacob is not like these, For [YHVH] is the Maker of everything, and of the tribe of His inheritance – YHVH of armies is His name. He says [to Israel], ‘You are My war-club, My weapon of war; And with you I shatter nations, and with you I destroy kingdoms’” (Jeremiah 51:19-20)

“Do not fear, you worm Jacob, you people of Israel! I will help you, declares YHVH, and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel. Behold, I turned you into a new, sharp threshing sledge with double edges. You will thresh the mountains and pulverize them, and make the hills like chaff. You will winnow them, and the wind will carry them away, and the storm will scatter them. But you will rejoice in YHVH! You will boast in the Holy One of Israel!” (Isaiah 41:14-16)

“Arise and thresh, daughter of Zion! For I will make your horn iron, and I will make your hoofs bronze – so that you may pulverize many peoples, and dedicate to YHVH their unjust profit, and their wealth to the Lord of all the earth (Micah 4:13)

“And what more shall I say? For time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets, who by faith conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight (Hebrews 11:32-34)

“And they will be like warriors, trampling down the enemy in the mud of the streets in battle. And they will fight, because YHVH will be with them. And the riders on horses will be put to shame” (Zechariah 10:5)

The God of Jacob empowers Israel and trains them how to fight

“Now these are the nations that YHVH left, to test Israel by them [that is] – all [the Israelites] who had not experienced any of the wars of Canaan – only in order that the generations of the sons of Israel might be taught war” (Judges 3:1-2)

“For by You I can run at a troop of warriors! By my God I can leap over a wall” (2 Samuel 22:30; see also Psalm 18:29)

“Blessed be YHVH, my rock, Who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle” (Psalm 144:1)

“God is known in Judah; His name is great in Israel. His tabernacle is in Salem; His dwelling place also is in Zion. There He broke the flaming arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war Selah” (Psalm 76:1-3)

The God of Jacob passes secret intelligence on to Israel

But YHVH said to Joshua, “See, I have handed Jericho over to you, with its king and the valiant warriors. And you shall march around the city, all the men of war circling the city once. You shall do so for six days. Also seven priests shall carry seven trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark; then on the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. It shall be that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people shall go up, everyone straight ahead” (Joshua 6:2-6)

Now the king of Aram was making war against Israel. And he consulted with his servants, saying, “In such and such a place shall be my camp.” But the man of God sent word to the king of Israel, saying, “Be careful that you do not pass this place, because the Arameans are coming down there.” And the king of Israel sent scouts to the place about which the man of God had told him. So he warned him, so that he was on his guard there, more than once or twice. Now the heart of the king of Aram was enraged over this matter; and he called his servants and said to them, “Will you not tell me which of us is for the king of Israel?” One of his servants said, “No, my lord, the king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.” So he said, “Go and see where he is, so that I may send men and take him.” And it was told to him, saying, “Behold, he is in Dothan.” So he sent horses and chariots and a substantial army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city. Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, “This is hopeless, my master! What are we to do?” And he said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are greater than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed and said, “YHVH, please, open his eyes so that he may see.” And YHVH opened the servant’s eyes, and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha (2 Kings 6:8-17)

Sometimes YVH calls upon Israel to destroy a region, and sometimes not

“When you besiege a city for a long time, to make war against it in order to capture it, you shall not destroy its trees by swinging an axe against them. For you may eat from them, so you shall not cut them down. For is the tree of the field a human, that it should be besieged by you? Only the trees that you know are not fruit trees you shall destroy and cut down, so that you may construct siegeworks against the city that is making war against you until it falls (Deuteronomy 20:19-20)

And Elisha said: “But now bring me a musician.” And it came about, when the musician played, that the hand of YHVH came upon him. And he said, “This is what YHVH says: ‘Make this valley full of trenches.’ For YHVH says this: ‘You will not see wind, nor will you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you will drink, you, your livestock, and your other animals. And this is an insignificant thing in the sight of YHVH; He will also give the Moabites into your hand. Then you shall strike every fortified city and every choice city, and cut down every good tree and stop up all the springs of water, and spoil every good plot of land with stones.’ (2 Kings 3:15-19)

God fights against Israel’s enemies and curses them

After the amazing military defeat of the Canaanite in the Valley of Jezreel, the prophetess Deborah and the military commander Barak son of Avinoam sang a song of victory:

“The kings came and fought. Then the kings of Canaan fought at Ta’anach near the waters of Megiddo. They took no plunder in silver. The stars [ed. angels] fought from heaven – from their paths they fought against Sisera. The torrent of Kishon swept them away – the ancient torrent, the torrent Kishon. My soul, march on with strength! Then the horses’ hoofs beat from the galloping, the galloping of his mighty stallions. ‘Curse Meroz,’ said the Angel of YHVH. ‘Utterly curse its inhabitants, because they did not come to the help of YHVH, to the help of YHVH against the warriors.’ (Judges 5:19-23)

“I cried to YHVH in my trouble, and He answered me. Rescue my soul, YHVH, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue. What will He give to you, and what more will He do to you, you deceitful tongue? Sharp arrows of the warrior, with the burning coals of the broom tree! Woe to me, for I reside in Meshech, for I have settled among the tents of Kedar! Too long has my soul had its dwelling with those who hate peace. I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war” (Psalm 120:1-7)

God sets up a divine hot-line for Israel

“And when you go to war in your land against the enemy who attacks you, then you shall sound an alarm with the [silver] trumpets, so that you will be remembered [see Psalm 106:4] by YHVH your God, and be saved from your enemies” (Numbers 10:9)

These promises and dynamics for Israel are irrevocable

As Israel clashes with the Shi’ite armies of Iran, it is helpful to remember as we pray: The gifts and calling of God on Israel are irrevocable and without repentance (Romans 11:29). Take advantage of these biblical principles which are still valid and which still apply to Israel, and pray these principles over Israel, as King David reminds us:

“Then David said … ‘For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he has dared to defy the armies of the living God?” (1 Samuel 17:26)

Then the Philistine came and approached David, with the shield-bearer in front of him. When the Philistine looked and saw David, he was contemptuous of him; for he was only a youth, and reddish, with a handsome appearance. So the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. The Philistine also said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky and the wild animals.” But David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a saber, but I come to you in the name of YHVH of armies, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day YHVH will hand you over to me, and I will strike you and remove your head from you. Then I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky and the wild animals of the earth, so that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that this entire assembly may know that YHVH does not save by sword or by spear; for the battle is YHVH’s, and He will hand you over to us!” (1 Samuel 17:41-47)

How shall we then pray?

Pray that Iranian jihadi plans to destroy Israel and cause great casualties will be nullified

Pray for the raising up of Ezekiel’s prophetic Jewish army throughout the earth

It’s been a long time coming

“Many times they have attacked me from my youth up,” let Israel say. “Many times they have attacked me from my youth up, yet they have not prevailed against me . . .May all who hate Zion be put to shame and turned backward! May they be like grass upon the housetops which withers before it grows up” (Psalm 129)

“I pursued my enemies and overtook them, and I did not turn back until they were consumed. I shattered them, so that they were not able to rise! They fell under my feet” (Psalm 18:37-38)

At 02:49 am Jerusalem time this morning, the first reports hit the internet. Approximately 200 Israeli Air Force (IAF) planes were heard as they crossed Iraqi airspace on their way to attack nuclear bomb factories, nuclear reactors, missile bases, military command and control centers in Iran. Within approximately ten minutes, nearly the entire Iranian High Command was wiped out. This included:

Hossein Salami, Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), probably the world’s top terror mastermind. Just yesterday he declared: “Our next confrontation with the Israelis will be far more crushing, devastating, and destructive.”

Today Mossad teams have been carrying out counterintelligence operations (aka targeted assassinations) in Iran. As well, at least thirteen Iranian fighter jets have been downed in dogfights with IAF fighters. Over 100 targets were hit by the IAF at time of publishing.

The trigger for this chain of events was yesterday’s historic IAEA Board of Governors resolution – passed by 19 out of 35 members – formally declaring Iran in breach of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and paving the way for possible referral to the United Nations Security Council. The latest IAEA report concluded that Iran has enriched uranium up to 60% purity, nearing weapons-grade, with stockpiles now large enough to build nine nuclear bombs – a capability that radically shifts the regional balance of power. Israel’s Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and also Israel’s Prime Minister have gone on record today that Iran’s military is currently constructing at least 9 nuclear bombs, with delivery date only a few weeks from today. The attack, Zamir said, was “an immediate operational necessity to remove the strategic threat and ensure our future.”

Clash with the Prince of Persia

“Contend, YHVH, with those who contend with me! Fight against those who fight against me!” (Psalm 35:1)

“For the music director. A Psalm of David. A Song. May God arise, may His enemies be scattered, and may those who hate Him flee from His presence” (Psalm 68:1)

“May He also rule from sea to sea, and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth. May the nomads of the desert bow before him, and his enemies lick the dust” (Psalm 72:8-9)

Iran has launched 100 attack drones as an initial response to Israel's pre-emptive strike. In an amazing indication of God's grace, IAF fighter jets took to the air and shot down these drones (many over Syria) before they could arrive in Israeli airspace. American jets were involved in that interdiction and, while British jets took off from Cyprus, they stayed clear of the Iranian drones. Iran still has over 2,000 missiles which can reach Israeli military and civilian targets . These could cause serious damage. You are invited to stand with the sons and daughters of Jacob at this challenging moment, and to pray with a full heart for the defeat of Israel’s enemies, which Psalm 83:1-5 says are also God’s enemies.

An intercessory prayer and meditation:

“The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, among many peoples like a lion among the animals of the forest, like a young lion among flocks of sheep – which, if he passes through, tramples and tears, and there is no one who can rescue. Your hand will be lifted up against your adversaries, and all your enemies will be eliminate” (Micah 5:8-9)

Israel’s IDF has named this operation/war ‘Am k’lavi) – ‘the people like a lion.’ This is taken from Numbers 23:24 (KJV), where Israel’s military victory over her enemies is poetically described by Balaam as that of a young lion, as he prophesies by the Holy Spirit:

“Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain!”

How shall we then pray?

Those who put their confidence in gold

“If I have put my confidence in gold and called fine gold my trust; if I have gloated because my wealth was great and because my hand had obtained so much . . . That too would have been a guilty deed calling for judgment, for I would have denied God above” (Job 31:24-28)

And Yeshua, looking around, said to His disciples, “How hard it will be for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!” And the disciples were amazed at His words (Mark 10:23-24)

Two kingdoms – two destinies

The Bible describes two kingdoms – the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan:

Hezekiah prayed before YHVH and said, “YHVH, God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim, You are the God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth” (2 Kings 19:15)

Then Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the House of YHVH in front of the new courtyard; and he said, “YHVH, God of our fathers, are You not God in the heavens? And are You not ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in Your hand so that no one can stand against You” (2 Chronicles 20:5-6)

And knowing their thoughts, Yeshua said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and no city or house divided against itself will stand. And if Satan is casting out Satan, he has become divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand?” (Matthew 12:25-26)

Messiah tells us that the kingdom of God is especially accessible – not to the rich – but to the poor: “And Yeshua raised His eyes toward His disciples and said: ‘Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God’” (Luke 6:20)

Yeshua stresses that the kingdom of God belongs especially to children and those of child-like faith: “But Yeshua called for the little ones, saying, ‘Allow the children to come to Me, and do not forbid them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all’” (Luke 18:16-18)

The kingdom of Babylon – the marketing of gold and men’s souls

The God of Israel passes on to John the Revelator insider information about Satan’s strategies on earth – those which affect politics, demonic religions, sexual impurity and how these all tie in to world economic systems, wealth and luxury:

After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated from his glory. And he cried out with a mighty voice, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place of demons and a prison of every unclean spirit, and a prison of every unclean and hateful bird. For all the nations have fallen because of the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich from the excessive wealth of her luxury” (Revelation 18:1-3)

The operative principles of this satanic kingdom (allegorically referred to as ‘Babylon’ in the Book of Revelation) connect with the ‘deal-makers of the earth’; this scenario is strikingly relevant to present-day politics – especially regarding superpower involvement in the Middle East. John prophesies in Revelation, describing how the God of Israel will ultimately destroy the powerbrokers of this world, shaking the economic foundations of ‘Babylon’ through economic collapse and physical quaking.

And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargo any more – cargo of gold, silver, precious stones, and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk, and scarlet; every kind of citron wood, every article of ivory, and every article made from very valuable wood, bronze, iron, and marble; cinnamon, spice, incense, perfume, frankincense, wine, olive oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle, sheep, and cargo of horses, carriages, slaves, and human lives. The fruit you long for has left you, and all things that were luxurious and splendid have passed away from you and people will no longer find them. The merchants of these things, who became rich from her, will stand at a distance because of the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning, saying, “Woe, woe, the great city, she who was clothed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold, precious stones, and pearls” (Revelation 18:11-16)

Babylon’s obliteration – divine payback for harming Zion

The world’s diplomats, prime ministers, presidents and dictators are described in the Book of Revelation as those who directly benefit from their economic trade with ‘Babylon’. The citizens of their countries delight in the fruit of ‘Babylon’ – booming economies and luxury goods. The nations vote time and again for the success and prosperity of Babylon, in a twisted and demonic parallel of Jeremiah’s godly advice to Judah’s exiles in Babylon: “Seek the prosperity of the city . . . for in its prosperity will be your prosperity” (Jeremiah 29:7).

Jeremiah receives revelation from the God of Jacob that ancient Babylon, as well as future Last Days Babylon, receives divine vengeance because of her anti-Semitism, her destruction of Jerusalem and her gutting of Israel’s Temple. As Jeremiah 50:28 says it: “There is a sound of fugitives and refugees from the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of YHVH our God, vengeance for His Temple”:

I heard another voice from heaven, saying, “Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive any of her plagues; for her sins have piled up as high as heaven, and God has remembered her offenses. Pay her back even as she has paid, and give back to her double according to her deeds; in the cup which she has mixed, mix twice as much for her. To the extent that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, to the same extent give her torment and mourning; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as a queen and I am not a widow, and will never see mourning.’ For this reason in one day her plagues will come, plague and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire; for the Lord God who judges her is strong. And the kings of the earth, who committed acts of sexual immorality and lived luxuriously with her, will weep and mourn over her when they see the smoke of her burning, standing at a distance because of the fear of her torment, saying, ‘Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! For in one hour your judgment has come’” (Revelation 18:4-10; see also Isaiah 63:4-6; Isaiah 34:8; Psalm 149:6-9)

When Babylon did business with Hitler

“When you sit down to dine with a ruler, consider carefully what is before you, and put a knife to your throat if you are a person of great appetite. Do not desire his delicacies, for it is deceptive food . . . He says to you, ‘Eat and drink!’ but his heart is not with you. You will vomit up the morsel you have eaten and waste your compliments” (Proverbs 23:1-9)

The world-system described allegorically in the Bible as ‘Babylon’ is headed up by leading industrialists and bankers who see the world and its markets as an exciting playing field, with ever-changing opportunities to increase power, profit and control. A fleeting glance at some American and British magnates’ operations in WWII shows their effusive support of Hitler, even as the Allies were at war with the Nazi juggernaut. J.D. Rockefeller – Standard Oil of New Jersey [Exxon] and Standard Oil of California [Chevron]) regularly shipped fuel through Spain to Switzerland for the use of Nazi troops in France. Albert Speer, Hitler’s architect and wartime armament minister, stated after the war that without certain kinds of synthetic fuel made available by American firms, Hitler “would never have considered invading Poland.” Chase Bank worked closely with the Nazis during WWII.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Morgenthau presented a memorandum to President Roosevelt, dated May 29, 1945. A concluding quote states: “Top American industrialists and financiers . . . are covered by the categories listed above. Henry Ford and Edsel Ford respectively contributed money to Hitler and profited from German wartime production. Standard Oil of New Jersey, General Electric, General Motors, and I.T.T. certainly made financial or technical contributions which comprise prima facie evidence of ‘participating in planning or carrying out Nazi enterprises.’”

A generation that did not know Joseph

On Sunday June 1, 2025 in Boulder, Colorado, a 45-year old Egyptian, Mohamed Sabry Soliman (illegally overstaying a US work visa since February 2023) violently attacked a peaceful walking group near the Pearl Street Mall. That weekly walking group, Run for Their Lives, “is an apolitical global organization with the sole mission of walking peacefully to raise awareness for the 58 hostages still held in captivity by Hamas in Gaza.”.

Mohamed set eight of the walkers on fire with an improvised flamethrower, also throwing Molotov cocktails at them. This happened only a few hours before the Jewish holy day of Shavuot or the Feast of Weeks (known among Christians as the Feast of Pentecost). After attacking the walking group, Mohamed Soliman yelled “Palestine is free!”, “You are killers; how many children have you killed?” and “We have to end Zionists, they are killers!”

Boulder police reported that eight people were burned, with CNN reporting that the victims are aged between 52 and 88. Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn said that “at least one was very seriously injured, probably safe to say, [in] critical condition.” One of the victims was an 88-year-old holocaust survivor who fled Nazi persecution in Europe. An eyewitness said that one woman was so badly burned that her hair caught fire. Another eyewitness told CNN she saw people strip and roll on the ground to put the fire out. Walla reported that children were among those injured.

This attack comes less than two weeks after the murder of two Israeli Embassy staffers attending an American Jewish Committee event at the Capitol Jewish Museum in Washington. At that terror attack, the Marxist-Leninist shooter yelled “Free, free Palestine” and “I did it for Palestine, I did it for Gaza,” shortly after murdering the young Messianic Jewish couple.

In April of this year, during the first night of Passover, an arsonist tried to burn down Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s residence, citing the governor’s support for Israel as his motive.

In response to the jihadi attack in Boulder, Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, said that terrorism against Jews “does not stop at the Gaza border – it is already burning the streets of America. Today, in Boulder, Colorado, Jewish people marched with a moral and humane demand: to return the hostages. In response, the Jewish protesters were brutally attacked, with an attacker throwing a Molotov cocktails at them. Make no mistake – this is not a political protest, this is terrorism.”

Mark Dubowitz, CEO of Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, tweeted: “600+ days of ‘pro-Palestinian’ protests in the U.S. have morphed into violent, antisemitic, pro-Hamas terrorism.”

Anti-Defamation League (ADL) CEO Jonathan Greenblatt posted: “This is the second violent attack on the US Jewish community in two weeks . . . Two peaceful Jewish events that ended with rage-filled, violent attacks. And the issue isn’t confined to the US. We’re witnessing a global campaign of intimidation and terror deliberately directed against the Jewish people. In the past few days, Jewish youth in London were assaulted. Public spaces in Brisbane were defaced with antisemitic graffiti. Synagogues, a Holocaust memorial and a kosher restaurant in Paris were vandalized. Sadly, none of this is surprising. In fact, it’s entirely predictable. This is precisely where anti-Jewish incitement leads. This is exactly what vicious anti-Zionism enables. Elected officials, community groups, media platforms, faith leaders — they all need to commit to taking action before this crisis escalates even further. Stop excusing antisemitic rhetoric. Stop platforming anti-Zionist hate. Stop equivocating when Jews are attacked. Stand with your Jewish friends and neighbors… …before things get even worse.”

Ronald Lauder, President of the World Jewish Congress, said that “the firebombing of a peaceful march in Boulder, Colorado – organized to demand the release of hostages held by Hamas – is horrifying, but it should not come as a surprise. Since Oct. 7, we have been warning that antisemitism is not isolated to the margins. Supporters of Hamas are now emboldened and threatening towns and cities across America and the democratic world. This attack, like the murders outside the Jewish museum in Washington, is part of a broader wave of hate that is being tolerated far too easily—from college campuses to government halls. It is not just the Jewish community that suffers. This violence tears at the very fabric of our societies.”

Jihadi terror has landed on American shores and has dug in for the long haul. Time to connect the dots.

The Passover story of the Exodus from Egypt begins with a key verse: “Now a new king arose over Egypt, who did not know Joseph” (Exodus 1:8). Seventy years ago, murderous anti-Jewish attacks like the ones described above would have been unthinkable in the USA. Today they are commonplace in the daily news, especially after Hamas’ terror pogrom directed against Israeli farms and kibbutzim on October 7, 2023 (which was carried out on the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah). How has the spiritual climate change so drastically? How has the epidemic of anti-Semitism spread so quickly across the fruited plain of America the Beautiful? How have so many Americans forgotten Joseph – the Jewish people?

A trail of jihadi breadcrumbs

World leaders are, for the most part, not basing in their politics on the Bible. They are casual and cynical about what the Scriptures say – and especially regarding the Jewish people’s calling, prophetic destiny and their restoration to the Promised Land. These politicians are ignorant of the dynamics and dangers that jihad poses to the sons and daughters of Jacob, to the Western world, and especially to America (what jihadis call ‘the Great Satan’). The cold-hearted attacks issuing from the mouths and pens of their spokesmen – be it Thomas Friedman of the New York Times or anti-Semitic commentator Candace Owen – bristle with animosity and barely concealed hatred for the Jewish people, their leaders and the restoration to their homeland:

“This ultranationalist, messianic Israeli government is not America’s ally. Because this is the first government in Israel’s history whose priority is not peace with more of its Arab neighbors and the benefits that greater security and coexistence would bring. Its priority is the annexation of the West Bank, the expulsion of the Palestinians of Gaza and the re-establishment there of Israeli settlements.”

Whereas the God of Israel originally raised up America to bless, protect and stand with Israel according to Genesis 12:3 (ESV), instead we are witnessing the growth of significant stream of US conservatives who despise and deride both the Jewish people and their reborn state of Israel. Such voices include Tucker Carlson (here, here, here and here), Candace Owen (here, here, here and here) and others. Their anti-Jewish vitriol and anti-Israeli venom have helped catalyze and strengthen the classical anti-Semitic tropes supported by Qatar, through their significant funding of US campus takeovers and street riots throughout America. The clear goal here is to undercut American support for both the Jewish people and the Jewish state.

The effects of wildcat anti-Jewish propaganda in US educational institutions, media and political narratives have raised the water level of popular hatred of the Jewish people; the results are seen in lone wolf attacks (Like Boulder and Washington D.C.) as well as in mass riots and anti-Semitic/anti-Zionist demonstrations.

There is an iron-clad connection between anti-Jewish words and propaganda, and anti-Jewish physical attacks and murder. The toleration of jihad and jihadis coupled with an abandonment of Biblical philo-Semitism has led to the spiritual crumbling of Western society, daylight between the US and Israel (especially during former administrations) and ‘hernia time’ for those who have become enemies of God’s chosen people:

“Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes staggering to all the peoples around; and when the siege is against Jerusalem, it will also be against Judah. It will come about on that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will injure themselves severely. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it” (Zechariah 12:2-3)

A new generation which supports Hamas

Recent polls in the USA show a sobering shift by younger American voters toward adopting anti-Israel jihadi perspectives and supporting Hamas’ terror campaign against the Jews.

In the December 2023 monthly Harvard CAPS/Harris poll, 51% in the 18-24 age group replied in the affirmative when asked if Israel should be “ended and given to Hamas and the Palestinians.” In that same 18-24 age group, 66% of respondents think that Hamas’s October 7 massacre constituted genocide. At the same time, 60% think that the attacks were justified by Palestinian grievances, indicating that they believe that genocide of Israelis is justified. The polls revealed that 60% of 18- to 24-year-olds favor an unconditional deal that would leave things as they are (no release of Israeli hostages and Hamas still in power). According to the poll, 53% of the 18-24 age group think that students should be free to call for Jewish genocide on campus without punishment, though 70% also added that such calls constitute hate speech. These polls also reveal that anti-Israel positions of the youngest age group are significantly higher among Democrats than among Republican voters.

Radical Islamic strategies targeting the West for the most part have not been identified, unmasked and eliminated. Using an old proverb mistakenly attributed to Mark Twain, Peter Senge notes: “Like the frog that will sit in a pot of water and let itself be slowly boiled to death, we are very good at reacting to immediate danger to our survival, but we are very poor at recognizing gradual threats.” (Peter Senge, The Fifth Discipline, Currency and Doubleday, New York, 1990).

Buying into the enemies of God

Three clear goals of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Qatar, Turkey and the PLO are also trumpeted by most of the nations at the UN:

Israeli retreat/disengagement from Gaza and the West Bank
No more Jewish construction of settlements in Gaza, the West Bank, the Golan or East Jerusalem
The setting up of a jihadi state in all areas Israel is forced to abandon

These goals are championed by ‘woke’ rioters and lone-wolf murderers throughout the USA.

Here is YHVH’s response to these plots, as sketched out in Psalm 83:1-8. At present, most of the countries listed (Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq) – a prophetic roster indeed – are involved in jihadi attacks on Israel as described in this passage. The rioters of Columbia, Harvard and Wellesley have joined themselves at the hip with these nations – which YHVH describes as “His enemies.” Apart from deep repentance, their portion will be the same as the portion of these nations:

God, do not remain quiet! Do not be silent and, God, do not be still. For behold, Your enemies make an uproar, and those who hate You have exalted themselves. They make shrewd plans against Your people, and conspire together against Your treasured ones. They have said, “Come, and let’s wipe them out as a nation, so that the name of Israel will no longer be remembered.” For they have conspired together with one mind! They make a covenant against You: the tents of Edom [southern Jordan] and the Ishmaelites [the Arabian peninsula], Moab [central Jordan] and the Hagrites [Egyptian Sinai]; Gebal [Lebanon], Ammon [northern Jordan], and Amalek [Sinai], Philistia [Gaza] with the inhabitants of Tyre [Lebanon]; Assyria [northern Iraq] also has joined them; They have become a help to the children of Lot [Jordan]. Selah!

Five years is a long time

The ‘George Floyd’ street riots which broke out across America in May and June 2020 were quickly commandeered by a pre-existing Marxist revolutionary group, BlackLivesMatter (BLM) created in 2013 by Opal Tometi, Patrisse Cullors, and Alicia Garza – three ‘queer’ Black activists. Apart from catalyzing and exacerbating mass disturbance and physical destruction across America, BLM helped to seed and reinforce some toxic myths in America’s media and public consciousness: critical race theory, intersectionality, and settler colonialism. They proclaimed a neo-Marxist ‘truth’: that the USA is beset not as much by a class war but by a race war; that there are two immutable groups of color, and that there will be a clash with the ‘white oppressors’ forever. No dissent to these ‘revolutionary truths’ will be tolerated, and ultimately US society must be dominated by BLM’s perspective.

Recent Qatari and Hamas-based propaganda have subtly tweaked these ‘revolutionary’ principles. The pro-Hamas campus and street rioters basically hold to the following metamorphoses:

The Jews are also ‘white oppressors.’ They are perpetrators and abettors of genocide. They have forfeited their humanity.
Israel is a manifestation of racism and colonialism. They are oppressors against people of color
Israel is guilty of horrible crimes and they must be punished.
All political discourse about Israel must be racialized.
The movement calls for genocide (“From the River to the Sea” – a judenrein (Jew-free) land) and jihadi terrorism (“Globalize the Intifada” and “Free Palestine”)
Demonstrations are insufficient; there is morality in armed action which are ‘legitimate acts’

Anti-Semitism is not an accident

A rabbi once said: ‘To deceive other people is a terrible thing, but to deceive oneself is a crime.’ The time has come for the Jewish people and those who love them to face the music, even if its tones are jarring. Anti-Semitism is not an accident. It is crafted by Satan, and it will be broken by the God of Israel. We will live to see that happen.

At the end of the age, when the Jewish people realize that all other possibilities of achieving godly government and holy worship in our own strength are exhausted, we will turn back to the Messianic Davidic dynasty, and will come with trembling repentance to YHVH our God: “Afterward the sons of Israel will return and seek YHVH their God and David their king; and they will come trembling to YHVH and to His goodness in the last days” (Hosea 3:5).

What is happening right now in Israel is a moving into the latter part of this process. The Jewish people’s faith in the wisdom, courage, strength and honesty of their leaders is being severely shaken. This hurts, and it causes a sense of no direction, no purpose and no vision. As Proverbs 29:18 says, “Without a prophetic vision, the people mourn as if at the approaching of death” (the Hebrew sense of the words).

But according to Hosea, this process is about to morph into the spiritual return of Israel to their God and their Davidic monarchy. Pray for the people of Israel, that God would turn our hearts back to Him. Pray that we would seek Him and Yeshua His Messiah, turning away from any arm of flesh – any dependence on any other country, including our own – and back to full dependence on YHVH alone.

How shall we then pray?

Pray to the God of Israel that anti-Semitism’s lies and malice will be utterly broken.

Pray that we will have the courage to expose this new virulent mutation of anti-Semitism

Pray that we will have the strength to speak up and refute anti-Semitic teachings, actions and attacks as these happen

Pray for believers to develop networks of underground railroads to help Jews find refuge as they return to Israel

There are approximately 20 living Israeli hostages remaining, kidnapped by Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Hamas is also holding on to approximately 70 Israeli corpses as cold storage bargaining chips. Pray for the speedy release of all the hostages, and for YHVH’s justice to be brought on the heads of the Islamist kidnappers

Pray for the raising up of Ezekiel’s prophetic Jewish army throughout the earth

Wave maker

Anti-Semitic attacks are on the rise – not because of bad Jews, but because bad anti-Semitic people are increasingly engaged in evil anti-Jewish actions. Jewish people and Israelis should not be deceived: changing our behavior, our appearance or our location will not stop these anti-Semitic outbreaks. These venomous attacks will continue to grow until Messiah returns.

Satan is going for broke on this one. His strategy is to stir up a massive worldwide wave of anti-Israel hatred, and then to use the momentum of that wave to launch a no-holds barred attack on all Jews everywhere.

“Then he showed me Yehoshua the high priest standing before the angel of YHVH, and Satan [Hebrew for ‘the accuser’] standing at his right to accuse him. And YHVH said to Satan, ‘YHVH rebuke you, Satan! Indeed, YHVH who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a log snatched from the fire?’” (Zechariah 3:1-2)

“Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8)

“the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations” (Psalm 65:7)

“And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war, and they did not prevail, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, ‘Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Messiah have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, the one who accuses them before our God day and night’ . . . And when the dragon saw that he was thrown down to the earth, he persecuted the woman [the Jewish people] who gave birth to the male Child [i.e.: Messiah Yeshua]. So the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Yeshua” (Revelation 12:7-13)

In the meantime, can we negotiate with Hitler?

The Western world is blind as it negotiates with jihadi powers (Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Yemeni Houthis, Qatar, etc.). Nearly ninety years ago Britain was blind when it negotiated with Hitler in Munich and betrayed Czechoslovakia. J.D. Rockefeller was similarly blind when his companies (Standard Oil of New Jersey [Exxon] and Standard Oil of California [Chevron]) refueled Nazi naval forces, according to a March 31, 1941 U.S. State Department report. Standard Oil regularly shipped fuel through Spain to Switzerland for the use of Wehrmacht troops in France. At a US Congressional hearing on September 22,1947, Judge Charles Clark declared that “Standard Oil can be considered an enemy national in view of its relationships with I.G. Farben – after the United States and Germany had become active enemies” (Charles Higham, Trading with the Enemy, New York: Delacorte Press, 1983, page 62). Major magnates like Ford, GM, ITT, IBM and even the Bank of England were all blind as they pursued lucrative business operations with Hitler. Doing deals with Hitler was good for American business – up to the point when Pearl Harbor threw a spanner into the works.

The God of Israel looks at business deals and peace treaties through different eyes. Nearly 3,500 years ago YHVH spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai and severely warned the Jewish people about cutting a covenant (entering into a treaty obligation) with any of the foreign tribes then living in the land of Canaan. As long as these Canaanites were not spiritually submitted to the God of Israel, they would bring spiritual confusion and deception to the people of Israel. A false peace and a counterfeit coexistence would lead to the breaking down of God’s walls of protection over Israel within the land, to subsequent foreign military invasion of the land of Israel and finally to exile for the Jewish people.

“Then God said, ‘Behold, I am going to make a covenant with you. Before all your people I will perform miracles never before done in all the earth nor among any of the nations. All the people among whom you live will see the working of YHVH, for it is a fearful thing that I am going to perform with you. Obey what I command you today: behold, I am going to drive out the Amorite before you, and the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite. Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land into which you are going, or it will become a snare in your midst. But rather, you are to tear down their altars and smash their sacred pillars and cut down their Asherah poles. Do not worship any other god, for YHVH, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land’” (Exodus 34:10-15)

Snares in the West

There have been a handful of Western-shepherded pseudo-peace treaties: the 1978 Camp David Accords; the 1993 Oslo Accords; POTUS Bush’s 2003 Road Map for Peace; and the 2020 Abraham Accords. Each one has assumed that Israel would hand back chunks of the Land promised by the God of Jacob to the people of Israel – in exchange for a paper-based quicksilver and quasi-recognition of Israel by the Jewish people’s mortal enemies. Each of these agreements has fallen by the wayside, with Israeli politicians, scholars, commentators (here, here, here and here) and the majority of the populace no longer believing in the viability of these agreements. Both Egypt and Jordan’s cold peace agreements have been shaken time and again nearly to the point of collapse, while the PLO and Hamas have continued to engage in bus bombings and rocket attacks in their Islamist intifadas – jihadi terror, massacre of civilians and even all-out war.

Over the years a Western worldview has evolved: surely Israel’s Palestinian enemies have inalienable rights to the Promised Land – better rights than what the Hebrew people had – and the Jewish state must shrink for peace to exist in the Middle East. This Western perspective not only brings the curse of the God of Jacob down on these nations aligning themselves with these demonic lies; they open a highway to hell for those lending a hand to jihad. The two most detailed descriptions of Messiah Yeshua’s return to Planet Earth involve Him bringing judgment on the nations who invade, who divide up and who despoil the Jewish people and their land (Zechariah 14:1-4; Joel 3:1-2).

This satanic deceiving of the West dovetails with classic Islamist jihadi strategies and Last Days vision – the Jewish people must be exiled from Israel and destroyed by the mujahidin, the jihadi armies of Mohammed. These goals are not only laid out with unmistakable clarity in the Quran and Hadith; they are trumpeted in the Hamas Charter, revealing that this terror group will never end its jihad against Israel until the Jewish state and its people are totally destroyed. Here are a few of those murderous articles:

“The Platform of The Islamic Resistance Movement: Israel will rise and will remain erect until Islam eliminates it as it had eliminated its predecessors” (Introduction)

“The Islamic Resistance Movement (ed., Hamas) draws its guidelines from Islam” (Article #1).

“Allah is its goal, the Prophet its model, the Qur’an its Constitution, Jihad its path and death for the case of Allah its most sublime belief ” (Article #8 – The Slogan of the Hamas).

“There is no solution to the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. The initiatives, proposals and International Conferences are but a waste of time, an exercise in futility” (Article #13).

“In order to face the usurpation of Palestine by the Jews, we have no escape from raising the banner of Jihad . . . We must imprint on the minds of generations of Muslims that the Palestinian problem is a religious one, to be dealt with on this premise. ‘I swear by that who holds in His Hands the Soul of Muhammad! I indeed wish to go to war for the sake of Allah! I will assault and kill, assault and kill, assault and kill’” (Article #15).

Snares from the East

Hamas and its fellow-jihadis in Syria’s ‘Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’ (‘Organization for the Liberation of the Levant’; abbreviated HTS), Hezbollah in Shi’ite Lebanon and Iraq, Qatar and Houthi Yemen – as well as its overwhelmingly popular support among Egypt’s, Bahrain’s and Saudi Arabia’s Muslim Brotherhood – all are seeking Israel’s destruction. So how can the USA, the UN, the EU and a host of other nations strongly advocate that Israel lay down its weapons, declare a ceasefire, retreat from Gaza (a portion of the Land promised by YHVH to the Jewish people in Joshua 15:47) and consent to Hamas holding onto Jewish corpses and live Israeli hostages, releasing them in stages? The current negotiations spearheaded by the US, Egypt and Qatar violate God’s clear warning in Exodus 34:12: “Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land into which you are going, or it will become a snare in your midst!”

The Muslim Brotherhood’s primary agents in the news today are Qatar, Turkey and Hamas. Qatar is the primary funder of Hamas’ jihadi terror attacks on Israel, but also hosts the US Army’s CENTCOM in Doha, as well as the world’s major source of anti-American and anti-Israeli propaganda through its national TV channel al Jazeera. Qatar has subsidized US universities, colleges, think-tanks, congressmen, newsrooms and corporations to the tune of $100 billion. Over the past two decades, it has poured billions into the purchase of American-made weapons and business investments ranging from real estate to energy plants. Since 2017, it has spent $225 million on lobbying and public-relations efforts in the nation’s capital. Most of the recent virulent spread of anti-Jewish riots on America’s streets and university campuses is connected to the efforts and oil-generated wealth of this Gulf State. Qatar’s sponsoring of Hamas is influencing Americans, driving a wedge among US citizens and cracking the social and religious foundations of that country. The recent Washington D.C. murder of the two Israeli Embassy staffers (Yaron Lischinsky and his soon-to-be fiancée Sarah Milgrim) was another one of the results of a groundswell of subsidized anti-Semitism – the transplanting of Jew-hatred from the Arabian Gulf to the waters of the Potomac.

There are fatal implications when Islamist hatred of the Jewish people and their state (through ideas and slogans) are mainstreamed into the hearts and minds of a society, whether in be in North America, Europe or even Switzerland.

This is the war that never ends

Western talking heads announce every day with increasing boldness that a deal with Hamas is at hand. Yet Hamas makes it crystal-clear that there will be no deal with Israel, no accommodation with the Jewish state. The nature of this ‘never-ending battle’ is revealed in an LBC TV (Lebanon) interview with Hamas Politburo member Ghazi Hamad on October 24, 2023 regarding the jihadi atrocities of October 7, 2023:

“We must teach Israel a lesson, and we will do this again and again. The Al-Aqsa Flood [ʿamaliyyat ṭūfān al-ʾAqṣā; Hamas’ name for the October 7 slaughter] is just the first time, and there will be a second, a third, a fourth, because we have the determination, the resolve, and the capabilities to fight. Will we have to pay a price? Yes, and we are ready to pay it. We are called a nation of martyrs, and we are proud to sacrifice martyrs . . . On October 7, October 10, October 1,000,000 – everything we do is justified!”

The God of the Bible is not only the God of Israel; He is the God of Joshua the warrior and the settler. In the Scriptures God fights for Israel and publicly identifies with her:

“For YHVH will certainly make for my lord an enduring house, because my lord is fighting the battles of YHVH, and evil will not be found in you all your days” (1 Samuel 25:28)

“Who is the King of glory? YHVH strong and mighty! YHVH mighty in battle!” (Psalm 24:8)

“Blessed be YHVH, my rock, Who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle” (Psalm 144:1)

The prophet Isaiah wants us to know that God identifies with the Jewish people, both sympathetically and empathetically, “In all their affliction He was afflicted” (Isaiah 63:9). The Jewish people are as close to Him and as tender in His sight as His own eyes, “Behold, he who touches you (Zion) touches the apple/pupil of His eye” (Zechariah 2:8). The God of Israel is Captain of YHVH’s armies. It is He who sent Joshua into battle against Jericho, and it is He who granted them victory (Joshua 5:13-6:5).

The Captain of YHVH’s armies is still the Captain of Israel’s armies, as Paul reminds us: “In relation to God’s choice [the Jewish people] are beloved on account of the Fathers [i.e., the Patriarchs]; for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable” (Romans 11:28-29).

Rise up, o men and women of God!

It’s time for the body of Messiah rise up. Believers need to awaken from spiritual slumber and discern that hateful anti-Jewish deeds of darkness are happening across the planet. The day is here when worldwide anti-Semitic attacks gather momentum and morph into a satanic sword against the Jewish people.

“For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep quiet, until her righteousness goes forth like brightness, and her salvation like a torch that is burning” (Isaiah 62:1).

How shall we then pray?

Pray to the God of Israel that anti-Semitism’s lies and malice will be utterly broken.

Pray that we will have the courage to expose this new virulent mutation of anti-Semitism

Pray that we will have the strength to speak up and refute anti-Semitic teachings, actions and attacks as these happen

Pray for believers to develop networks of underground railroads to help Jews find refuge as they return to Israel

Never again?

“The Pharisees and Sadducees came up. Testing Yeshua, they asked Him to show them a sign from heaven. But He replied to them, ‘When it is evening, you say, “It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.” And in the morning, “There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.” Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?’” (Matthew 16:1-3).

Imagine there’s no anti-Semitism

In the movie Schindler’s List, a group of Polish Jews huddle around an old oil barrel in the Jewish ghetto in Kraków. As they warm their hands over burning scrap wood, one of them confidently proclaims, “There’s nowhere down from here. This is it! This is the bottom. The ghetto is liberty!” This fellow was full of hope. He could not imagine that things would get worse. But his was an appalling misreading of the situation.

A recent discussion I had with an American Jewish friend touched on the current explosion of anti-Semitism in the USA. He insisted that anti-Semitism was not on the rise in the Land of the Brave; that the best professional surveys indicate that no problems are on the immediate horizon; and that the really dangerous location for Jews is Israel. But the levee continues to rise – as Kansas Joe and Memphis Minnie sang in 1929 – and anti-Jewish attacks (whether on university campuses, in the media, on the streets or demonstrating across from Jewish schools, synagogues and community centers) are surging to levels last seen in Nazi Germany of the mid-1930’s.

The recent tsunami of American, Canadian, and European riots, violence, marches and individual attacks on Jews and their institutions actually rivals Nazi anti-Semitic riots and attacks as described in such scholarly articles as ‘Everyday Antisemitism in Pre-War Nazi Germany: The Popular Bases’ (Michael H. Kater, in Yad Vashem Studies XVI; Jerusalem, 1984, pp. 129-159) and ‘Anti-Semitism in Europe Before the Holocaust’ (William I. Brustein and Ryan D. King, in International Political Science Review (2004), Vol. 25, No. 1, 33-53).

When one recalls that the percentage of popular support for the Bolsheviks and their violent Communist Russian revolutionary movement in February 1917 was less at that time than today’s spreading plague of anti-Jewish and anti-Israeli hatred, it might be time to sit up and take notice.

When anti-Semitism raised its ugly head in Germany of the 1930’s, most nations pooh-poohed the matter. It’s just overly excitable Jews trying to drag us into their paranoid delusions, said many. The Jewish people deserve it, others opined; they are simply too successful in business. Even today, some well-known Christian ministers as well as TV personalities slyly whisper that the Jews are the power behind all thrones, supposedly controlling the banks, the media, the world economy, the arts, etc. We are living witnesses to the fact that each one of these anti-Semitic charges from the 1930’s are ricocheting around us in broad daylight. These poisonous words echo in the public square, in religious conferences, at the plenum of the U.N. and from some evangelical pulpits.

Our day is strikingly similar to the days of Hitler’s rise. But many are asleep at the wheel. What will wake us up so that we begin to discern the signs of the times?

Genocide against the Jews

Jewish communities in the West responded to the October 7, 2023 Hamas jihadi terror-pogroms with bold declarations: “Not in my lifetime!” “Not on my watch!” “Never again!” And over 80 years ago, the Jewish people voiced similar reactions in response to the disasters of the Shoah (the Holocaust). In that context, the term ‘never again!’ was a call to the descendants of Jacob never to forget how the Nazi anti-Semites murdered their relatives, destroyed their communities and turned their flourishing culture into powder and ashes. The phrase ‘never again’ has been used in many official commemorations and appears on many Holocaust memorials and museums, including at Treblinka extermination camp and Dachau concentration camp.

Jews with longer memories use the term ‘never again’ to recall events further back in history – the Destruction of the Second Temple (70 A.D.), the agonies of the Exile of the Hebrew people from their Promised Land (721 B.C. to the present), and the pogroms in Eastern Europe (the late 1800’s and early 1900’s).

In 1972 Meir Kahane of the radical Jewish Defense League authored a book outlining his vision of Jewish history titled ‘Never Again! A Program for Survival.’ Kahane said, “Our motto ‘Never Again’ does not mean that ‘it’ [a holocaust] will never happen again. That would be nonsense. It means that if it happens again, it won’t happen in the same way. Last time, the Jews behaved like sheep.”

The term ‘never again!’ has been a catalyzing call to remember the murderous legacy of anti-Semitic history and to proactively prepare for the defense of the Jewish people and their national homeland (the state of Israel) from these rabid forces – whether Marxist-leftist, fascist-extreme right wing, or jihadi Islamist. According to Aaron Dorfman, “Since the Holocaust, the Jewish community’s attitude toward preventing genocide has been summed up in the moral philosophy of ‘Never Again.’” In other words: the Jews will not allow themselves to be victimized again. Eric Sundquist notes that “the founding of Israel was predicated on the injunction to remember a history of destruction – the destruction of two Temples, exile and pogroms, and the Holocaust – and to ensure that such events will never happen again.”

Universalizing the Holocaust while blaming the Jews for genocide

The United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 because “the international community vowed never again to allow” the atrocities of World War II. The Genocide Convention was adopted the same year.

But today the forces of PC (political correctness) have blurred and universalized the term ‘never again,’ appropriating it as a political slogan of the moment – whether it be the promotion of gun control or infanticide/abortion, or even as an anti-Semitic slogan to be used against the Jewish state’s post-October 7, 2023 efforts to crush the terrorist forces of Hamas (which are attempting to destroy Israel and replace it with a jihadi dictatorship).

An example of this ‘woke’ appropriation came to light in an internal debate within the Frankfurt School of neo-Marxist ‘critical theory.’ Its most prominent living member, Jürgen Habermas, in a November 13, 2023 statement, declared that the “never again” principle must above all lead to a German commitment to protecting Jewish life and Israel’s right to exist. His neo-Marxist colleagues vociferously disagreed, accusing Israel of genocide. Here is an excerpt from his response to their anti-Semitic declarations:

“The current situation created by Hamas’ extreme atrocity and Israel’s response to it has led to a cascade of moral and political statements and protests. We believe that amidst all the conflicting views being expressed, there are some principles that should not be disputed. They are the basis of a rightly understood solidarity with Israel and Jews in Germany . . . The Hamas massacre with the declared intention of eliminating Jewish life in general has prompted Israel to strike back . . . Despite all the concern for the fate of the Palestinian population, however, the standards of judgement slip completely when genocidal intentions are attributed to Israel’s actions. In particular, Israel’s actions in no way justify anti-Semitic reactions, especially not in Germany. It is intolerable that Jews in Germany are once again exposed to threats to life and limb and have to fear physical violence on the streets . . . All those in our country who have cultivated anti-Semitic sentiments and convictions behind all kinds of pretexts and now see a welcome opportunity to express them uninhibitedly must also abide by this.”

Black, green and red – the colors of poison

Today most American Jews tend to see the murder of Jews primarily as a right-wing or white racist/fascist (often symbolized by the color black) phenomenon. Yet in fact it is international jihadi and Islamist Jew-hatred (often symbolized by the color green) which is the prime mover in this field, closely followed by woke and Marxist-Leninist leftist movements (often symbolized by the color red) – like the recent murder of the Israeli Embassy couple in Washington D.C. Right-wing Judenhass (hatred of the Jews) actually comes third in this ignominious line.

The modern explosion of Western anti-Jewish attacks has been catalyzed by a synthesis of Muslim immigrants (bringing their centuries-old anti-Jewish Islamist attitudes and history) and woke-anarchist-communist violent street activism (which in turn owes much to the recent Black Lives Matter and Antifa movements).

Lady Liberty and a Jewish torch

Emma Lazarus was a Jewish American activist, an author of poetry, prose, and translations. Born in New York City in 1849, she wrote a sonnet in 1883 which would have deep prophetic significance. This poem was titled ‘The New Colossus’ and it was inspired by the arrival in America of the French-casted Statue of Liberty. Its lines are inscribed on a bronze plaque, fixed to the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. Lazarus was much involved in aiding Jewish refugees who were fleeing anti-Semitic pogroms in eastern Europe. She saw her sonnet as a way to express her empathy for these refugees. Here are a few lines from that poem:

“A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame is the imprisoned lightning,

And her name – ‘Mother of Exiles.’

From her beacon-hand glows world-wide welcome;

Her mild eyes command the air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

‘Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!’ cries she with silent lips.

‘Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!’

The Statue of Liberty commemorates many wonderful dreams, hopes and visions. And, at the same time, the Holy One of Israel made sure that, every time they approached that statue and read the words of that plaque, America and all the nations would be reminded of YHVH’s love for Israel, His promises to Jewish people, and His unshakeable commitment to protect the sons and daughters of Jacob from the demonic scourge of anti-Semitism:

“For you are a holy people to YHVH your God. YHVH your God has chosen you to be a people for His personal possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. YHVH did not make you His beloved nor choose you because you were greater in number than any of the peoples, since you were the fewest of all peoples, but because YHVH loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers, YHVH brought you out by a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know therefore that YHVH your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His faithfulness to a thousand generations for those who love Him and keep His commandments; but He repays those who hate Him to their faces, to eliminate them; He will not hesitate toward him who hates Him, He will repay him to his face” (Deuteronomy 7:6-10)

Anti-Semitism in the Home of the Free

Many Jewish people worldwide have thought of America as an exception to the rule of Jewish history: they assumed that the USA will never again be faced with anti-Jewish pogroms, exiles, concentration camps or genocidal slaughter. There has been a lightness of spirit for many North American Jews – that perhaps once and for all they have broken free from the anti-Semitic chains of Europe and the Middle East. “Persecuted Jews?” they say. “That won’t apply to North America! That view of Jewish history was written for another time – a more ancient period when things were different!”

Yet the eruption of anti-Semitic lava across the Western world, the attacking of Jewish students at American universities, the dastardly murder of Israeli Embassy staff in the nation’s capitol – it must be said that it is no longer business as usual.

How shall we then pray?

Pray for revelation and strategic wisdom to be given to believers worldwide on how to counter anti-Semitic forces and how to stand with and protect the Jewish people across the face of the globe

Pray for revelation and courage to be given to international leaders in political, intelligence and military spheres – to understand and counteract strategies against Israel, the apple of God’s eye (Zechariah 2:8) – as jihadi armies gather at Israel’s borders.

Pray that enemy strategies against the Jewish people and their state, against Middle East Christians and other minorities – will be confounded, and that a great harvest would take place in all of these areas!

Pray for the protection of Israeli and Jewish people from the assaults of jihadi terror organizations and their Western fellow-travelers, and the return of the Jewish people to both the Land and the Messiah of Israel

Running the race well

Murder most foul

On Wednesday evening May 21 at 9:08 pm, two Embassy staffers at the Israeli Embassy in Washington D.C. – Israeli Yaron Lischinsky (age 30) and his soon-to-be fiancée American Sarah Milgrim (age 26) – were leaving an event at the Capital Jewish Museum. Both were Messianic Jews – Jewish people who had come to the conviction that Yeshua (Jesus) is the Messiah of Israel and the Savior of the world. Yaron was a research assistant whose responsibilities included monitoring political and social developments in the Middle East. Sarah helped coordinate a variety of travel to Israel, including political, religious and other groups (like visitors studying climate change).

They had been attending a reception hosted by the American Jewish Committee (an advocacy group that supports Israel and fights antisemitism). This ‘Young Diplomats Reception’ is an annual reception bringing Jewish young professionals aged 22–45 together with the diplomatic community in order to advocate on behalf of critical domestic and global issues facing the Jewish community. The theme this year was connected to “bringing humanitarian aid to Gaza through Israeli-Palestinian and regional collaboration.” It was titled “Turning pain into purpose.” Attendees heard from members of the Multifaith Alliance and IsraAID nonprofits on humanitarian diplomacy and “how a coalition of organizations are working together in response to humanitarian crises throughout the Middle East and North Africa.” Yaron and Sarah were shot as they were exiting the event.

The shooter was Elias Rodriguez, an approximately 31-year old Hispanic from East Albany Park or Avondale in northeast Chicago near Wrigley Field. In 2017 Rodriguez was affiliated with the far-left ‘Party for Socialism and Liberation [PSL].’ A 2017 article in ‘Liberation’ (a newspaper associated with that Marxist-Leninist group) mentioned that group member Elias Rodriguez gave a speech at a protest against a Chicago policeman accused of shooting Laquan McDonald. That article quoted Rodriguez as asking whether Americans want “a nation of cities dominated and occupied by massive corporations where only the rich and white can live and the vast majority of us must live on edges of the city and society.” Rodriguez added in that article: “The wealth that Amazon has brought to Seattle has not been shared with its Black residents. [Amazon’s] whitening of Seattle is structurally racist and a direct danger to all workers who live in that city. ”

On October 8, 2023, after the Hamas-led attack on Israel, PSL Central Committee member Eugene Puryear helped organize a rally at New York City’s Times Square in support of Hamas’ October 7, 2023 terror attack on Israelis, during which he stated: “[T]here was some sort of rave or desert party where they [Israelis] were having a great time, until the resistance came in electrified hang gliders and took at least several dozen hipsters, and I’m sure they’re doing very fine despite what the New York Post says”

A LinkedIn profile appearing to be Rodriguez’ mentioned that he previously worked as a production and logistics coordinator and oral history researcher for ‘TheHistoryMakers,’ a nonprofit aimed at preserving the stories of African Americans. On an X account being investigated by the FBI as appearing to belong to Rodriguez, the owner of that account declares “Escalate For Gaza, Bring The War Home,” accuses Israel of “genocide” and concludes: “Free Palestine — Elias Rodriguez.” According to open source intelligence, an X profile has surfaced (@kyodo.leather) that seems to belong to Rodriguez. The account started to actively publish on X in October 2023, just two weeks after October 7, and posted content including a video calling to “bomb Tel Aviv” and the words “De@th 2 Amerikkka” and “Happy New Year, Death To Israel.”

After shooting the couple from behind and then ‘confirming’ the murders with a total of 21 9mm bullets, Rodriguez whipped out a red keffiyeh associated with Hamas and kept chanting “Free, free Palestine.” A total of twenty one 9 mm bullets and a handgun were recovered from the scene. According to a complaint filed by the FBI, which was unsealed on Thursday, Rodriguez told police at the scene, “I did it for Palestine, I did it for Gaza.”

When anti-Semites murder Jews in Washington D.C.

Israel’s Ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, noted: “The person who shot these two young people dead last night shouted ‘Free, free Palestine.’ This was done in the name of a political agenda to eradicate the State of Israel. The State of Israel is now fighting a war on seven fronts. This is the eighth front in the war to demonize, to delegitimize, to eradicate the right of the State of Israel.” This shines light on a 900-word signed manifesto which was uploaded to the internet less than one hour after the murders (pre-planned by Rodriguez). In that post Rodriguez (purportedly) declared (regarding anti-Israel demonstrations) that “thus far the rhetoric has not amounted to much.” He advocates “the morality of armed demonstration,” and declares: “I am glad that today at least there are many Americans for which the action will be highly legible and, in some funny way, the only sane thing to do.”

Tal Naim, spokesperson for the Israeli Embassy in Washington, noted that “for six months, we had dozens of people demonstrating with signs, calling us child murderers, pouring red water on us, which is like blood spilled in Gaza. This is the reality of embassy employees . . . An American citizen who turns on his television – and I’m not even talking about the networks, because that’s much more hackneyed – sees shocking images from Gaza, and many of them are fake. He gets images of destruction, hunger, blaming IDF soldiers for all kinds of crimes – and that definitely affects public opinion here.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to the shooting, saying in a statement, “Yaron and Sarah weren’t the victims of a random crime. The terrorist who cruelly gunned them down did so for one reason and one reason alone – he wanted to kill Jews. And as he was taken away, he chanted, ‘Free Palestine!’ This is exactly the same chant we heard on October 7th. On that day, thousands of terrorists stormed into Israel from Gaza. They beheaded men. They raped women. They burned babies alive. They butchered 1,200 innocent people and took 251 innocent people hostage to the dungeons of Gaza. A short time afterwards, Chancellor Scholz of Germany visited Israel. And after he saw the horrors, he said to me, ‘These Hamas terrorists are exactly like the Nazis.’”

The assassination of these two Messianic Jews set off alarm bells across the world – especially among those who are still shocked by murderous Islamist terrorism and the vicious deeds of their supporters and fellow travelers. Our immediate family are friends of Yaron’s family, and two of our sons were friends of Yaron.

Running the good Jewish race

Whether in life or in death, Yaron and his beloved Sarah’s lives testify to their unshakeable faith in Israel’s Messiah Yeshua. Yaron had faithfully attended a Messianic congregation in Jerusalem where one of my sons (part of the leadership) had a close connection with him. He was a courageous and kind young man, asking the hard questions and rejoicing in biblical answers. Sarah was hoping to be immersed as a believer in Yeshua on her planned upcoming trip to Israel, where Yaron was planning to propose to her and to give her an engagement ring. All this was cut short by the despicable assassination.

Yaron and Sarah’s boldness about their faith may have been difficult for some to grasp, whether it be an occasional Christian notable, an Israeli diplomat or a brilliant American Jewish spokesman – people who might be uncomfortable balancing Yaron’s Jewish identity simultaneously with his Messianic Jewish faith. Some preferred to refer to Yaron as a non-Jewish Christian, or to Sarah as simply Jewish. But Yaron and Sarah were not ashamed of their Messianic faith, and were similarly proud of their Jewish identity. Let us honor both their memory and their testimony by remembering them as they defined themselves.

Interestingly enough, two secular websites were clear on these matters: one Israeli official who knew Yaron noted to CNN that Yaron identified as Jewish, while Wikipedia clearly stated that Yaron practiced Messianic Judaism. We are also thankful that Ron Prosor, Israel’s Ambassador to Germany, described Lischinsky as “a true lover of Israel” who dedicated his life “to the State of Israel and the Zionist cause.”

The words of Paul echo down to us as he speaks about his upcoming martyrdom in Rome:

“For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing” (2 Timothy 4:6-8).

In the same way, Yaron and Sarah fought the good fight finished the course and kept the faith. They are truly American and Israeli martyrs, whose lives were taken up to heaven in Kiddush Hashem, a sanctification of the name of the God of Israel and His Messiah Yeshua.

Sha’ul (Saul/Paul’s original Hebrew name) did not see himself as an ex-Jew who had now become a Gentile Christian, but as a shaliach (an emissary) of the Jewish Messiah. Indeed he declared on numerous occasions:

“After three days Paul called together those who were the leading men of the Jews, and when they came together, he began saying to them, ‘Brothers, though I had done nothing against our people or the customs of our fathers, yet I was handed over to the Romans as a prisoner from Jerusalem’” (Acts 28:17)

“I am wearing this chain for the sake of the hope of Israel” (Acts 28:20; to the leaders of the Jewish community in Rome)

“Remember Messiah Yeshua, risen from the dead, descendant of David, according to my gospel” (2 Timothy 2:8)

“Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning His Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh” (Romans 1:1-3)

Shape-shifters and lengthening shadows

In J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘Ring Trilogy,’ Gandalf declared:

“Always after a defeat and a respite, the Shadow takes another shape and grows again. ‘I wish it need not have happened in my time,’ said Frodo. ‘So do I,’ said Gandalf, ‘and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us. And already, Frodo, our time is beginning to look black. The Enemy is fast becoming very strong. His plans are far from ripe, I think, but they are ripening. We shall be hard put to it’” (The Fellowship of the Ring, page 19).

Thomas Fuller, a 17th-century English historian, said in his 1732 work ‘Gnomologia’: “It is always darkest just before the day.” And David Crosby echoed those words in in his 1969 epic song (‘Long Time Gone’: “But you know the darkest hour is always, always just before the dawn”

Time to pray and to be ready for what Isaiah prophesied:

“On your walls, Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen. All day and all night they will never keep silent. You who profess YHVH, take no rest for yourselves, and give Him no rest until He establishes and makes Jerusalem an object of praise on the earth!” (Isaiah 62:6-7)

How shall we then pray?

Pray for revelation and courage to be given to international leaders in political, intelligence and military spheres – to understand and counteract strategies against Israel, the apple of God’s eye (Zechariah 2:8) – as jihadi armies gather at Israel’s borders.

Pray that enemy strategies against the Jewish people and their state, against Middle East Christians and other minorities – will be confounded, and that a great harvest would take place in all of these areas!

Pray for the protection of Israeli and Jewish people from the assaults of jihadi terror organizations and their Western fellow-travelers, and the return of the Jewish people to both the Land and the Messiah of Israel

There are approximately 20 living Israeli hostages remaining, kidnapped by Hamas, Islamic Jihad, PFLP/PLO and the Mujahideen Brigades. Hamas is also holding on to approximately 70 Israeli corpses as cold storage bargaining chips. Pray for the speedy release of all the hostages, and for YHVH’s justice to be brought on the heads of the Islamist kidnappers

Pray for the raising up of Ezekiel’s prophetic Jewish army throughout the earth

Beauty, oil and passion

It has been said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The Middle East seems to be a very beautiful place – especially to superpowers, to asset management firms, and to military and petrochemical industries. Why are tycoons and moguls so attracted to the Islamic world? What draws them to Riyadh, to Doha and to Abu Dhabi?

The essence of beauty

Four-star U.S. General and former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO Wesley Clark once spoke bluntly, “The truth … about the Middle East is, had there been no oil there, it would be like Africa. Nobody is threatening to intervene in Africa” (General Wesley Clark, 92nd Street Y Cultural Center, New York City. 27 Feb 2007). NY Times journalist Thomas Friedman once commented in a similar vein, “We are the addicts. The oil producers are the pushers” (attributed in Commodities: 50 Things You Really Need To Know).

The ‘beauty in the eye of the beholder’ in the Middle East involves some of the planet’s biggest supplies of petroleum and natural gas buried beneath the shifting sands of Iran, Qatar and Saudi Arabia (three of the top five suppliers).

Bob Dylan spotlights this dynamic on his Grammy-award winning album, where the song ‘Slow Train Coming’ won the 1980 GMA Dove Award:

“All that foreign oil controlling American soil
Look around you, it’s just bound to make you embarrassed
Sheiks walkin’ around like kings, wearing fancy jewels and nose rings
Deciding America's future from Amsterdam and to Paris
And there’s a slow, slow train comin’ up around the bend”

In an article titled ‘The Fall Of The House Of Saud’ (May 2003, The Atlantic), Bob Baer explains:

“Not all the wishing in the world will change the basic reality of the situation:

Saudi Arabia controls the largest share of the world’s oil and serves as the market regulator for the global petroleum industry.

No country consumes more oil, and is more dependent on Saudi oil, than the United States.

The United States and the rest of the industrialized world are therefore absolutely dependent on Saudi Arabia’s oil reserves, and will be for decades to come.

If the Saudi oil spigot is shut off, by terrorism or by political revolution, the effect on the global economy, and particularly on the economy of the United States, will be devastating.

Saudi oil is controlled by an increasingly bankrupt, criminal, dysfunctional, and out-of-touch royal family that is hated by the people it rules and by the nations that surround its kingdom.”

The Islamist oil wars

Problems arise when the eyeglasses of the West get smeared with Gulf oil; it clouds political vision, resulting in compromised and fuzzy ethical decisions. This was why Baer titled his 2004 book ‘Sleeping With the Devil: How Washington Sold Our Soul for Saudi Crude.’ One analyst has stated: “For bankers, the most important thing is to keep the channels of international finance open, no matter what the human cost.”

The violent jihadi ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood is not changing any time soon. And Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria, Qatar, Turkey, the Houthis, etc., are all on board for the very bumpy ride.

“Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil!”(Jeremiah 13:23). The Deputy Head of Hamas’ Political Bureau Moussa Abu Marzouk agrees with Jeremiah, noting in 2006 that “Hamas changes neither its skin nor its principles and it will deal with the West on this basis” (JP Thurs Feb 2 2006, page 6). Hamas Chairman and Politburo Chief Khaled Mashaal stressed that same point in March 2017: “We were and we still are in an open war with the criminal enemy [Israel] . . . [Hamas] insists on the choice of jihad and resistance – Hamas’s greater and first strategy . . . Hamas is not changing its skin.”

It is instructive to hear the perspective of Ephraim Halevi, former head of the Mossad (Israel’s equivalent to the C.I.A.), in his article ‘Rules of conflict for a world war’ (JP, Fri July 8 2005). Halevi now heads the Center for Strategic and Policy Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem:

“We are in the throes of a world war, raging over the entire globe and characterized by the absence of lines of conflict and an easily identifiable enemy. There are sometimes long pauses between one attack and another, consequently creating the wrong impression that the battle is all over, or at least in the process of being won … With the passage of time, our memories fade and we return to our daily lives, forgetting that the war is still raging out there and more strikes are sure to follow. It cannot be said that…we can see its conclusion. We are in for the long haul and we must brace ourselves for more that will follow. The ‘Great Wars’ of the 20th century lasted less than this war has already lasted, and the end is nowhere in sight … International cooperation…cannot replace the requirement that each and every country effectively declare itself at war with international Islamist terror … This war is already one of the longest in modern times; as things appear now, it is destined to be part of our daily lives for many years to come.”

Desert deception

King Solomon cautions his listeners to beware of neighbors with evil agendas: “One who hates disguises it with his lips, but he harbors deceit in his heart. When he speaks graciously, do not believe him, because there are seven abominations in his heart. Though his hatred covers itself with deception, his wickedness will be revealed in the assembly” (Proverbs 26:24-26).

The deceptiveness of oil politics has formed cataracts on Western eyes. The jihadi world is diligently pulling strings, manipulating Western (and even some Israeli) fears, trying to force all resistance to jihadi strategies to come to a shuddering halt. But jihad – Islamist holy war – is not a low-grade fever which can be blithely ignored by paying a hefty ransom to its perpetrators. Western media paint a picture for their listeners, that the Arabian Gulf oil barons are threatening an oil-based ‘jihad-Mafia option.’ To paraphrase U2’s Bono: “Just give us what we want, and no one gets hurt!”

Here are three mini-quotes from Bob Dylan which speaks to this above dynamic:

World leaders are lacking backbone: “We live in a political world, where courage is a thing of the past.”

Beware of false promises of peace and prosperity, Bob warns us in ‘Slow Train Coming’: “Big-time negotiators, false healers and woman haters – masters of the bluff and masters of the proposition. But the enemy I see wears a cloak of decency . . . And there's a slow, slow train comin' up around the bend”

Dylan cautions about giving in to political and spiritual pressure: “He got a sweet gift of gab, he got a harmonious tongue. He knows every song of love that ever has been sung. A good name is better than good oil, says the Preacher, the son of David, in Ecclesiastes 7:1.

The passions of God

While the world may seductively offer great power, wealth and reputation in exchange for toeing the line, Messiah Yeshua shows us another way:

“Again, the devil took Him along to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; and he said to Him, ‘All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.’ Then Yeshua said to him, ‘Go away, Satan! For it is written: “You shall worship YHVH your God, and serve Him only.’” Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and began to serve Him” (Matthew 4:8-11)

The nation that chooses God’s heart and His priorities, that runs after His passions – that nation will be blessed with peace and prosperity. Pray for the leadership of your nation, that they will receive a revelation of YHVH’s heart and priority passion for the Jewish people; that they will shape their Middle East policies based on a biblically informed heart – protecting and blessings the sons and daughters of Jacob.

“In all their distress He was distressed, and the Angel of His presence saved them. In His love and in His mercy He redeemed them, and He lifted them and carried them all the days of old” (Isaiah 60:9)

“Now a centurion’s slave, who was highly regarded by him, was sick and about to die. When he heard about Yeshua, he sent some Jewish elders to Him, asking Him to come and save the life of his slave. When they came to Yeshua, they strongly urged Him, saying, ‘He is worthy for You to grant this to him; for he loves our nation, and it was he who built us our synagogue’” (Luke 7:2-5)

“The sons of those who afflicted you will come bowing to you, and all those who despised you will bow down at the soles of your feet. And they will call you ‘the City of YHVH, Zion of the Holy One of Israel’” (Isaiah 60:14)

“And He has lifted up a horn for His people . . . for the sons of Israel, a people near to Him. Hallelu YAH!” (Psalm 148:14)
